The Animal Guardian Society (TAGS) is dedicated to providing compassionate re-homing and medical care to displaced companion animals. We empower our community through humane education, behaviour counseling, and the steadfast promotion of responsible pet ownership.
TAGS began over 30 years ago when Kathy Asling rescued a single puppy, sparking a mission to save lives. Since that first rescue in 1987, our registered charity has grown into a community-driven organization committed to improving the lives of canine and feline citizens throughout the Durham Region.
As a 100% volunteer-operated program, we rely on a dedicated pack of individuals who provide temporary homes for animals in need. Our rescue model is foster-based, meaning every animal receives personalized care and socialization in a home environment while awaiting their permanent match. We also maintain a training center in the Enfield area to support the health and behavior of our rescue alumni.
We believe in building lifelong connections between pets and their new families. Our thorough adoption process and mandatory training workshops ensure that every placement is a harmonious fit. Because we prioritize the long-term success of our animals, we provide ongoing support and resources to our adopters well beyond the day of adoption.
Are you ready to welcome a new companion into your home? We invite you to browse our current list of adoptable pets and begin your journey toward a new, life-long friendship. Your support through adoption, volunteering, or donating helps us continue our vital work for animals in need.
