Alliston & District Humane Society
Our Mission
The Alliston & District Humane Society is dedicated to providing shelter for stray and unwanted animals, with a commitment to giving priority to those who have been abused or neglected. We strive for a 100% adoption rate and operate under a compassionate no-kill philosophy for all animals deemed adoptable.
Our History and Community
Since 1988, we have been serving the townships of New Tecumseth, Mulmur, and the villages of Cookstown, Rosemont, Hockley, and the Town of Schomberg. We opened our first permanent shelter and adoption centre in 2010 to better meet the needs of our local community.
How We Care for Animals
As a volunteer-led organization with dedicated paid medical support, we operate entirely on community donations to provide life-saving care. Our animals benefit from a combination of shelter-based care and a robust foster program, which provides a loving, temporary home environment that helps them prepare for their forever families. We prioritize rehabilitation, medical treatment, and socialization to ensure every animal gets the best possible start.
Your Role in Their Journey
Adoption is a wonderful partnership, and we work hard to ensure that each match is a perfect fit for both the animal and your lifestyle. By opening your home to one of our cats, dogs, or small animals, you are providing a second chance to a deserving pet. We encourage you to spend time getting to know our residents during our monthly open houses or by scheduling a private appointment to meet your future companion.
Take the Next Step
Ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our adoptable animals online, fill out an adoption application, or join our community of volunteers and supporters. We can’t wait to help you find your perfect match and celebrate the joy that a rescued pet brings into your life.
