Our Mission
The Guelph Humane Society is dedicated to promoting the welfare of all animals by providing care and shelter for homeless, stray, injured, and abused animals in our community. We strive to prevent cruelty and suffering while working toward a future where every animal lives a healthy, happy life.
Our Story
Founded in 1893, we have proudly served Guelph and Wellington County for over 130 years. As a registered charitable, non-profit organization that does not receive government funding, we rely on the kindness and compassion of supporters like you to carry out our vital work.
Our Care
Operating from our modern facility at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd, we provide a safe, nurturing environment for the thousands of animals that pass through our doors each year. Whether through our dedicated animal sheltering, foster programs, or wildlife assistance, our team of staff and volunteers works tirelessly to ensure every animal receives the care, socialization, and second chances they deserve.

10/21 - This #WildlifeWednesday we are featuring a juvenile yellow-bellied sap sucker who was found by a concerned community member after they noticed it was unable to fly. Once the sap sucker arrived at the shelter, our team gave it a full physical assessment, where it was suspected the bird had a potential wing injury. After the assessment, the sap sucker was provided with fluids and general care before being transported to Hobbitsee Wildlife Refuge for further treatment and care. This time of year, songbirds and waterfowl are migrating south for the winter, so keep a special eye out for your local bird populations and if you find a sick, injured or orphaned wildlife, call your local humane society. 10/20 - Giving learning opportunities to dogs of all ages, abilities and breeds is a magical thing. Firefly has been at GHS for a few months, and it's nice to help this young man keep his wits sharp and nails short. This is our first session using the scratch board and it's safe to say, it won't be our last! I'll be at the Guelph Humane Society this weekend if you'd like to come by for a nail or training session. 10/16 - Tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 17th, from 10:00am – 2:00pm, the Guelph Humane Society will be collecting pet food for the GHS Pet Food Bank. The GHS Pet Food Bank supports over 300 vulnerable animals in Guelph and Wellington County each month. This vital service is made possible because of your generous donations of dog food, cat food, and litter. Drop by the shelter between 10:00am - 2:00pm with your unopened pet food donations and help us support pets and people in the community! 10/14 - We wanted to share a little update on Lucy, the young cat who was found taped inside a diaper box and abandoned beneath a bush in Guelph. We knew she was ready to give birth but thankfully she made it to GHS just in time. We are excited share that Lucy has given birth and is now a proud mother to three healthy and adorable kittens. Over the next few weeks our team will continue to monitor Lucy and her babies to ensure they are gaining weight and receive all of the medical care they need. Thank you for helping turn Lucy’s heartbreaking story into one filled with hope. Because of you, three tiny kittens have a chance to start life safely, and their mother has the opportunity to heal and experience the kindness she always deserved.
