Action Volunteers for Animals - Toronto West

Our Mission

Action Volunteers for Animals (AVA Cat Rescue) is dedicated to improving the lives of stray and feral cats by providing them with the second chances they deserve. We are a 100% volunteer-run, donation-based registered charity committed to finding every cat a loving, forever home.

Our Story

Founded in the early 1970s, AVA began when a group of volunteers united to protect animals during a strike at the Toronto Humane Society. Since then, we have grown into a dedicated organization that remains focused on welfare and advocacy for vulnerable cats throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

How We Operate

We are a foster-based rescue, meaning our rescued cats live in safe, comfortable homes while they await adoption. In addition to our foster network, we partner with PetSmart adoption centres in Toronto, Scarborough, Richmond Hill, Brampton, and Vaughan to help our cats find their families. We also champion Trap-Neuter-Return-Monitor (TNRM) programs to provide essential support for feral cat colonies.

A Meaningful Connection

We view adoption as a joyful, life-long partnership that requires careful consideration. Because we want to ensure the perfect fit for both you and our cats, our team works closely with adopters to understand individual needs, personality, and lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a playful kitten or a wise senior, we are here to guide you toward a companion who will thrive in your care.

Join Our Village

It truly takes a village to make a difference, and there are so many ways you can get involved. We invite you to browse our current adoptable residents, learn more about our foster program, or donate to support our ongoing medical and care efforts. Reach out today and help us create a brighter future for cats in need.
