Ottawa Humane Society
Our Mission
The Ottawa Humane Society is dedicated to leading our community in building a humane and compassionate environment for all animals. We are here to inspire and mobilize people to create a future where every animal enjoys the five essential freedoms.
Our History and Community
Since our founding in 1888, we have evolved to become a cornerstone of animal welfare in Ottawa. Today, our work extends far beyond sheltering lost, unwanted, or injured animals; we actively partner with the community to offer education, pet food support, and specialized veterinary services that help keep families together.
Our Care Model
We operate as a community leader, constantly seeking new ways to provide specialized care for animals with complex needs. While we provide high-quality care within our shelter facility, we also rely on a dedicated foster program that allows animals to thrive in temporary homes until they are ready for adoption. Every animal in our care receives a thorough veterinary examination, vaccinations, and a behaviour assessment to ensure we understand their unique requirements.
Building Your Perfect Match
Adoption is a joyful journey, and our goal is to make the best match for both you and your new companion. Our adoption counsellors work closely with you to ensure your new pet’s personality and needs align with your lifestyle. We believe in transparency and providing you with the tools and support needed for a lifetime of success, including a health guarantee and access to discounted veterinary services.
Take the Next Step
Your new best friend is waiting for you at the Ottawa Humane Society. We invite you to browse our current adoptable animals, complete an adoption application, or visit our facility on West Hunt Club Road. Together, we can give a deserving animal a loving forever home.
