Lanark Animal Welfare Society
Giving Every Paw a Chance
At the Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), we are dedicated to promoting the welfare of all animals by providing compassionate shelter, care, and a path toward a brighter future. Our mission is to prevent suffering for those in need while advocating for a community where every animal is treated with kindness and respect.
Our History and Community Commitment
Since 1986, when we acquired our one-acre facility on Glenview Road, our organization has remained a pillar of support for Lanark County’s lost, abused, and abandoned animals. With the steadfast support of our staff, volunteers, and the community, we continue to provide the highest standard of care while championing meaningful change in the animal welfare space.
Our Compassionate Care Model
As a no-kill organization, we believe that every animal deserves a chance at rehabilitation. We do not use euthanasia as a means of population control, choosing instead to focus on proactive community programs like humane education and our 'Trouble Fund' for spay/neuter assistance. Every animal in our care, whether a rescue or a stay at our facility, is treated with love and dedicated attention by our team.
Finding Your Perfect Match
Adopting a new family member is a joyful, major life decision, and our team is here to ensure the process is as smooth as possible. We prioritize thoughtful, individual matching to ensure that our animals find the right home environment for their specific needs. We are transparent about each animal's history and behavior, empowering you to make a confident choice that builds a lifelong bond.
