The Niagara SPCA and Humane Society is dedicated to delivering innovative programs and compassionate services that enhance the lives of pets in need and the people who care for them. Together, we work to enhance lives, inspire compassion, and bring joy to both pets and people.
A Legacy of Compassion
For over a century, our organization has been a steadfast advocate for animals across the Niagara Peninsula. Formed by the union of the Niagara Falls Humane Society and the Welland & District SPCA, we joined forces in 2021 to streamline our efforts and expand our reach, ensuring more animals receive the care they deserve.
How We Care
As a non-profit charity, we operate animal centers in Welland, Niagara Falls, and Port Colborne, providing a safe haven for homeless animals as they await their forever families. Our daily operations are powered by a dedicated team of staff and over 200 volunteers who provide thousands of hours of service each year, ensuring every animal receives professional and heartfelt attention.

We believe in the beauty of the human-animal bond and strive to support that connection through every step of the adoption process. By offering services like low-cost spay-neuter and wellness clinics, we ensure that pets in our community stay healthy and happy long after they find their new homes.

10/21 - Meet Skye, our longest-staying resident. Skye has been waiting longer than any other animal in our care for a family to call her own, and we're hoping her perfect match is out there! While she waits, Skye has been receiving plenty of love and care from her wonderful foster family, but she's still dreaming of a forever home to call her own. This sweet girl may be a little shy when meeting new people, but once she gets comfortable, her loving and loyal personality really shines. She's gentle, affectionate, and just a little nosy, always keeping an eye on what's happening around her! Skye has been through a lot during her time with us, including surgery on both knees. She's recovering well and currently receives allergy medication and a specialized diet to keep her feeling her best. Her future family will need to be prepared to continue her care, including any veterinary follow-ups she may need. 10/20 - Paige is coming up on one year in our care, and we're hoping her forever family is just around the corner! This strong, confident girl has so much love to give. 10/17 - Meet Peppa, a sweet girl with a goofy side just waiting to shine! Peppa can be a little shy when meeting new people, but give her some patience and kindness, and it won't take long for her playful personality to come out! She enjoys spending time with other dogs and could do well in a home with a compatible canine friend. Like many young dogs, Peppa is still working on her manners, especially when her excitement gets the best of her! With a little guidance, continued training and a family willing to help build her confidence, Peppa has so much love and personality to share. 10/14 - Meet Shanta, our new Foster Pathways Coordinator! 🐾💙 Working across our Niagara Falls, Welland and Port Colborne shelters, Shanta is helping connect animals in need with foster families who can provide them with a loving place to stay. Her goal? To make the best possible matches between animals and foster families, setting both up for long-term success. 10/9 - Two adorable faces looking for their forever homes! Meet Harlow and Ram! These Cane Corso mix puppies are currently waiting at our Welland Shelter for families to call their own. Harlow is a beautiful black female, while Ram is a handsome brindle male. Both are at the beginning of their journeys and looking for loving homes where they can grow, learn and make plenty of memories. 10/3 - Day 2 of Mars Global Adoption Weekend is here, and today we’re introducing you to Sherlock. 💙 From October 2–4, Mars and PEDIGREE Foundation are covering cat and dog adoption fees at all Niagara SPCA & Humane Society shelters. Sherlock is a friendly, food-motivated boy who loves spending time with people and is always ready to learn, especially when treats are involved! He already knows his sit cue, walks well on leash and is eager to keep building on his skills. He’s also dog friendly and appears comfortable around other dogs, so he may enjoy having a canine companion. A meet and greet is recommended to make sure everyone is a good match. 10/2 - Today is the day! Mars Global Adoption Weekend is officially here, and we’re hoping this could be Taco’s chance to finally find his person. 💙 From October 2–4, Mars and PEDIGREE Foundation are covering cat and dog adoption fees at all Niagara SPCA & Humane Society shelters. Taco’s story started with us. He was born in our care to his mom, Jewels, adopted as a little puppy, and later returned when he reached that high-energy adolescent stage. Now around 1 year old, Taco is a big puppy who doesn’t quite know how big he is yet. Shelter life has been tough for him. He has lots of energy and is still working on impulse control, leash skills and learning that toys are for mouthing, not people. Underneath all that puppy chaos is a smart, affectionate boy with his heart in the right place. He needs exercise, enrichment, continued training and, most importantly, someone willing to give him the time and consistency he needs to grow. Taco is a good boy. He just needs someone to give him the chance to show it. 10/1 - Lady has been waiting a long time for her turn. She’s been at our Welland shelter since October 2025 and is quickly approaching one full year in our care. Lady is a big girl with an even bigger heart. She loves people, long walks, swimming and playing with her toys. Give her a toy and she can happily make a whole day out of it. She’s looking for a home where she can be the only pet and have all that love and attention to herself.
