The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Durham Region Animal Centre is dedicated to providing care, comfort, and compassion to animals in need. We are committed to fostering a community where all animals are treated with the respect and kindness they deserve.
For over 150 years, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society has served as a registered charity across Ontario. We strive to keep pets and families together by providing essential community support services, ranging from emergency sheltering and animal advocacy to pet food distribution and veterinary care.
Our approach is grounded in the Capacity for Care philosophy, which balances the number of animals in our facility with our available resources to ensure every pet receives individualized, high-quality attention. We operate a clean, professional centre in Whitby where our staff and volunteers provide a safe environment for animals while they await their forever homes. Beyond our walls, we rely on a dedicated foster network to provide extra love and care for young, sick, or under-socialized animals as they grow and heal.
Adoption is a joyful journey, and we are committed to making it a positive experience for both you and your new companion. We prioritize transparent, judgment-free conversations to ensure you find the perfect match for your lifestyle. Our team works hard to share all known medical and behavioural information, helping you feel confident and supported as you welcome a new furry family member into your home.
Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or support our work through a donation, you are an essential part of our mission. We welcome you to visit our Durham Region Animal Centre in Whitby seven days a week between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to meet our adoptable animals and see firsthand the difference we are making together.
