Oregon Dog Rescue

Our Mission

Oregon Dog Rescue is a dedicated no-kill shelter committed to placing dogs in the best possible homes while ensuring the long-term success of every adoption. Since 2007, we have served the greater Portland, Oregon area by providing a safe haven for dogs in need.

Our Story

Founded by Deb Bowen and Krystyna Schmidt, our organization grew from a passion for rescue and a desire to make a meaningful difference. We operate as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, relying solely on donations and adoption fees to provide care for nearly 2,000 dogs each year.

How We Care

Our Portland facility accommodates up to 125 dogs, who spend their days socializing in playrooms and interacting with our staff and volunteers. Before finding their forever families, every dog receives comprehensive veterinary care, including spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and de-worming. It truly takes a village of employees, dedicated foster homes, and volunteers to ensure our residents are happy and healthy while they wait for their new families.

Your Partner in Adoption

We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are devoted to creating the perfect match for both you and your new companion. Our team carefully evaluates each dog to understand their personality and needs, and we provide ongoing support for the lifetime of your pet. We encourage families to bring their children and current dogs to meet-and-greets to ensure everyone is a great fit for the journey ahead.

Start Your Journey

Your next best friend is waiting! We invite you to view our adoptable dogs online, visit our facility in Portland, or reach out to us with any questions about our process. Together, we can help more dogs find the loving homes they deserve.

10/18 - 🎉 This incredible life changing story would not have been possible without every single one of these humans @shirascottastrof THANK YOU for always answering the SOS texts 🫶🏽 your generous financial support to help these animals has made saving lives possible @pacificpugs @oregondogrescue THANK YOU for taking a chance on these babies. The kindness and care that you have given every single one, to place in the perfect foster home 😍 you are heroes @startanimalrescue THANK YOU for loving these pups and getting them safely to their destination 🚗♥️ 💛 THE STORY 💛 PT 2 Griselda agreed to let five of her puppies, their mom and dad go to safe homes. She asked for the weekend to say goodbye, and we trusted her When we came back Monday morning, she had kept her word, and then some. All eight puppies were there. Every one that had been given away was back with her, ready to get off the street She trusted us. She wanted every one of her babies to get their chance We took six puppies plus mom and dad and promised to come back for the rest Last week, they headed to @pacificpugs @oregondogrescue in Oregon, and are doing incredibly well (some have already been adopted !!) There’s loud chatter going around that people on Skid Row are abusers who don’t deserve their animals - that was the narrative assigned to Griselda She proves otherwise Shame and rage didn’t save these dogs ~ Kindness did 🫶🏽The WUFAW DIFFERENCE is taking the time. The time to understand, the time to come back, time to create trust, time to recognize the human sitting In front of you. Had we not taken the time, had we assumed she was an “abuser breeding her dogs” there would still be a woman under a bridge with 12 dogs … There’s more to Griselda’s story. 💛 Stay tuned. 💛 #adoptdontshop #animalrescue #rescuedog #pugsofinstagram #animalwelfare
