Multnomah County Animal Services

Our Mission

Multnomah County Animal Services is dedicated to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of people and pets throughout our community. We are here to ensure every animal in our care receives the support and second chance they deserve.

Serving Our Community

As the county’s sole public animal shelter and control agency, we proudly serve the cities of Portland, Gresham, Troutdale, Fairview, Wood Village, Maywood Park, and all unincorporated areas of Multnomah County. We are committed to fostering a safe environment for every lost, homeless, stray, injured, or neglected animal that comes through our doors.

Our Care Model

Our operations are powered by a compassionate blend of professional shelter care and a robust network of dedicated foster volunteers. While our main facility in Troutdale provides essential veterinary services and shelter, our foster program allows at-risk kittens, puppies, and animals needing medical recovery or socialization to thrive in the comfort of a home setting.

Finding Your Perfect Companion

We believe in the joy of creating lifelong partnerships between people and pets. Our adoption process is designed to help you find an animal whose personality and care needs align perfectly with your family and lifestyle, ensuring a successful transition for everyone.

10/10 - Meet Bouncer, a fun-loving Pit Bull who literally puts the "bounce" in everything he does! 🐾 This boy doesn't just walk—he happily pogo-jumps with pure joy, and his playful spirit is completely infectious. 🎉 Bouncer is looking for an active, on-the-go family who will match his awesome enthusiasm for life and take him on big adventures; he already rides very well in the car and is completely unfazed by running kids or passing dogs on the trail. 🏃‍♂️💨 Because he is basically a furry bundle of excitement who can get jumpy and mouthy when worked up, he'll need a family committed to continuing his training, utilizing his extreme treat motivation and existing knowledge of the "sit" command to help him master his doggy manners. 🐾 In return, you get an incredibly affectionate companion who readily rolls into your legs for belly rubs and is wonderfully playful and tolerant with the right doggy playmates. If you love outdoor fun, playtime, and a loyal friend who will always keep you smiling, Bouncer is ready to leap straight into your heart! ❤️🐶 https://www.multcopets.org/adoptable/402899 #MultnomahAdoptablePets #PawsportAdventure #DogDayOut

10/8 - Meet Dallas, a handsome Shepherd mix looking for an experienced shepherd lover to guide him! 🐾 This gentle boy can be a bit nervous in new surroundings and prefers to take pets on his own terms while building his confidence. Once comfortable, his inner social butterfly emerges-he loves to cuddle up close for head scratches, and he has plenty of energy to keep up with active dog pals for non-stop playtime. Because Dallas is a strong pup who pulls on the leash and can be reactive to other dogs on walks, he needs an adopter familiar with German Shepherds who can provide consistent leash training and redirection. If you have a secure yard, experience with working breeds, and a heart ready to earn the loyalty of a sweet, neutered companion, Dallas is ready to thrive in your home. 🐕❤️ Dallas is in a volunteer foster home, so you won't find him at the shelter! 9/24 - PUPDATE: currently in a foster-to-adopt home‼️ ✨DURANGO✨ our beautiful rescue king 👑 Durango is one of Multnomah County Animal Services most loved dogs. He is cared for by so many members of this community. For months on end he has been in and out of the shelter, just looking for a safe place to land. It’s hard out here for a gentle giant. He is ISO his forever people and we won’t stop until we find them. Durango is around 2 years old and he is 70 pounds, but needs to gain some weight and fill out a bit. He has teenage puppy energy! He is looking for a home where his handlers can continue his training. He is incredibly smart, maybe too smart for his own good 😂 he responds well to positive reinforcement, consistency, and routine. Durango believes that ball is LIFE— he carries it around like a binky and it’s quite possibly the cutest thing I have ever seen. I think his biggest area of focus right now is impulse control. Durango has some mild resource guarding so he needs help practicing “wait” while playing or getting treats. Because of this we feel strongly that Durango should not be placed in a home with children. He’s super sweet but due to his size and play style we think he’d be most successful in an adult only home. He’s dog friendly! He can co-exist with cats if he has enough space and intros are given proper time & care. Durango is currenty in foster and will be returning to the shelter this Sunday. We are hoping to find another foster home in the Portland area who might be able to provide temporary care for him. If you’re able to step up we are here to help you navigate the fostering process and help set you & Durango up for success. Apply to foster, learn more about Durango, or make an appointment to meet him today at multcopets.org 🐾 📍 Multnomah County Animal Services Portland | Troutdale, Oregon @multcopets #pdx #portland #portlandoregon #foster #adoptme
