The Animal Rescue League of Berks County protects animals, provides a safe haven, and promotes innovative programs to help both people and animals in need throughout Berks County. We believe in a world where everyone is empowered to care for animals with love and kindness.
Founded in 1952 by Mary Archer, our organization has evolved from a small vision into a dedicated animal welfare center. For over 70 years, we have worked tirelessly to care for the sick, treat the injured, and protect the abused, ensuring that as many animals as possible receive a second chance at a happy life.
As a progressive, no-kill shelter partner, we provide comprehensive care for over 5,000 animals each year. Our facility offers a safe environment for dogs, cats, small animals, and even farm animals, supported by a dedicated medical center and a passionate team. We embrace science-based best practices to ensure every animal under our roof receives the highest standard of professional, compassionate attention.
We see ourselves as matchmakers, focused on helping you find a companion that best fits your unique lifestyle and home environment. Our team works with you one-on-one, sharing personality insights and behavior observations so you can feel confident in your new partnership. We are proud to facilitate adoptions that create lifelong, joyful bonds for both pets and their new families.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to browse our available animals online or join our virtual waitlist to visit us at our Birdsboro facility. Whether you adopt, volunteer, or support our programs, your involvement helps us continue our vital work for the animals of Berks County.
