The Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, Inc. (HOKAFI) is a dedicated non-profit, no-kill animal shelter in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. We believe every dog and cat deserves a safe, loving place to call home.
Founded by the late Helen Opperman Krause, our shelter carries forward a legacy rooted in deep compassion and a lifelong devotion to animals. After facing great uncertainty in her own efforts, Helen established a foundation that ensures animals in need receive the safety, dignity, and care they so rightfully deserve.
Our shelter is run primarily by a dedicated corps of volunteers and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, ensuring our focus remains entirely on the animals. Located on two acres of landscaped grounds, our complex features a state-of-the-art main cat shelter, a cat annex, and a dog kennel, providing a safe environment for up to 100 cats and 10 dogs at any given time.
We believe adoption is a joyful, lifelong partnership, and we prioritize thoughtful matching to ensure a happy future for both our animals and your family. Because our residents have often come to us after being abandoned or stray, we take the time to get to know their personalities and needs, ensuring we find the right fit for your home and lifestyle.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our adoptable cats and dogs online or contact us at 717-697-3377 to schedule a visit. Join our community of supporters by volunteering, becoming a member, or exploring our Guardian Angel Program to help us continue providing a safe harbor for animals in need.
