The Washington Area Humane Society exists to provide shelter, safety, and care for the abandoned and abused animals of Washington County with the goal of placing them in forever homes. We are driven by the vision that all animals deserve a valued life and a loving family.
Rooted in a history of advocacy that dates back to 1906, we have spent over a century evolving to meet the needs of our community. From our humble origins to our modern, 10,000-square-foot facility opened in 2019, our commitment to humane care remains unwavering as we continue to serve as a resource for the pets and people of Washington County.
As an organization 100% funded by private donations, we prioritize transparency and innovation in everything we do. Our team provides comprehensive support through our shelter services, low-cost veterinary clinics, and a dedicated pet food bank that distributes over 40,000 pounds of food annually to help families keep their pets at home.
We believe in building lifelong partnerships between animals and their adopters. Our dedicated team works thoughtfully to ensure every pet finds the right environment, and our 94% live release rate reflects our deep commitment to the well-being of every animal that enters our doors.
