Dessin Animal Shelter
Our Mission
Dessin Animal Shelter is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting in the placement of many animals each year into loving, forever homes. We strive to provide comfort, safety, and health care to every animal that walks through our doors.
Our History
Founded in 1968 by mother and daughter Olga and Dorothea Dessin, our shelter has been a pillar of the community for decades. We continue to address the critical needs of local animals, including providing shelter for the lost, abandoned, and displaced, while fostering a deeper connection through community and humane education.
How We Care
Our commitment to animal welfare is comprehensive and transparent. Every pet in our care receives essential health screenings, including vaccinations, flea, mite, and deworming treatments, and is spayed or neutered before adoption. We are supported by the generosity of our donors, our thrift store The Cat’s Pajamas, and various community-led fundraising efforts.
Your Perfect Match
We take every adoption seriously because we want to ensure a happy, lifelong bond between you and your new companion. Our team conducts thorough behavioral assessments and health evaluations to create the most successful, thoughtful matches for both the animal and your family. Adopting a pet is a joyful partnership, and we are here to support you in finding the right addition to your life.
