Street Tails Animal Rescue

Our Mission

Street Tails Animal Rescue is a Philly-based nonprofit dedicated to giving overlooked dogs the second chances they deserve. We are a small team with a big mission, working to ensure every animal receives the life-saving care they need.

Why We Exist

We believe that every dog deserves a fresh start, which is why we focus our efforts on the animals who need us most. We aren't backed by large government grants, meaning our work is entirely made possible by the generosity and support of our community.

How We Provide Care

Our organization operates out of a cozy, kennel-based facility designed to keep things calm and quiet for the animals in our care. Within this environment, we provide personalized medical attention, enrichment, and consistent one-on-one time to help our dogs prepare for their forever homes.

Your Adoption Journey

We believe that every adoption is personal and we never rush the process, because we want to get it right for both you and your new companion. Because we prioritize a calm environment, we operate by appointment only, which allows us to dedicate the necessary time and care to every match. We invite approved adopters to meet our dogs and discover the joy of opening their hearts and homes to a new family member.

10/13 - Milk Dud’s story didn’t have to go this way. 💔 After weeks in the city shelter, ACCT Philly was able to make contact with his owner. But when it came time to bring him home, they declined because he would need to be neutered. So Milk Dud stayed. And now he’s here with us. We can’t change how he got here, but we can make sure the next chapter looks different. Milk Dud is one of so many Philly dogs who need someone to show up for them, and we’re able to do that because of the community that stands behind us. Want to help us keep showing up for Philly dogs like Milk Dud? We’re 100% donation-funded, and every contribution helps us continue this work. 🖤 streettails.org/donate • Venmo @ streettails Welcome to Street Tails, Milk Dud. You’re not alone anymore.

10/10 - Ash said the donations needed a little fashion show. 🕶️🐶 A HUGE thank you to the @fivebelow on City Line Avenue for donating TWO CAR LOADS of pet supplies to Street Tails! We found these sunnies in the haul, and Ash clearly felt they belonged to her. There was enough to stock up for our own dogs AND share the love. We’ve already delivered one box to ACCT Philly, with two more waiting to make the trip. 🖤 Philly dogs need Philly people, and we love seeing our community show up for them. Thank you, Five Below!

10/9 - It started as a little parade in front of the rescue… who knew it would grow into Philly’s spookiest dog party? 🎃👻 Years later, Hound-O-Ween has turned into a whole lot more than costumes and a parade. We’re talking a $500 cash prize for the costume contest, 50+ raffle prizes, food, drinks, incredible sponsors, and a whole lot of dogs in ridiculous outfits. 🐕🧙‍♀️ And the best part? Every dollar raised helps Street Tails Animal Rescue keep showing up for Philly dogs. Come for the costumes. Stay for the raffles. Leave knowing you helped dogs who need us. 🖤 🎃 Hound-O-Ween is October 17! 🐾 Register now and join us for a spooky good time. 👻 streettails.org/hound-o-ween

10/7 - October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, so here’s your reminder that the dog you meet in a kennel is not necessarily the dog you’ll live with. A shelter is an incredibly unnatural environment for a dog. The noise, confinement, unfamiliar people, disrupted sleep, constant stimulation and lack of control can put a dog into survival mode. And when a dog is stressed, we’re not always seeing their real personality or their real capacity to learn. That doesn’t mean every behavior disappears when the dog goes home. It means context matters. So when you’re looking at shelter dogs this month, remember: you’re not just choosing the dog you see in the kennel. You’re choosing a dog you’re willing to get to know after the kennel. Because sometimes the best part of adoption is putting in the work to build the bond that lets you meet the dog underneath the stress. 🐶 Ludwig is still searching for a home 🏡 Streettails.org/adopt • Philadelphia PA 🪪07205

10/7 - Gingersnap is really sick. And it came on fast. We’ve cared for hundreds upon hundreds of sick dogs over the years. We know what to do. We know how to care for them. It still hurts. Especially when you look at Gingersnap and know how much her body has already endured. She was used over and over for breeding. She was abandoned, ended up at ACCT, and came to us malnourished. Likely not long after having another litter, and likely without ever receiving the basic preventative care she deserved. And now she’s sick. Our staff and volunteers are watching her slump and feeling every bit of it. Because these dogs aren’t just cases to us. We know them. We love them. We sit beside them when they’re scared. We celebrate when they get better. And we hate when they don’t. ACCT and rescues like STAR do our due diligence. We get these dogs seen. We treat what we can. We fight for them. But we need to build better. That’s why raising the funds to move into a different space matters so darn much. More room. More quiet. Better medical accommodations. A place where dogs like Gingersnap can actually recover. We can’t undo what was done to her. But we can build something better for her and for the next dog who comes through our doors. For now, she has a humidifier, a soft place to curl up, and a whole lot of people rooting like hell for her. Please help us keep building. 🤍 Become A Monthly Donor— streettails.org/donate
