Our Mission

At the Antietam Humane Society, we are dedicated to promoting the well-being of animals and our community through compassionate education, dedicated care, life-saving adoption, and active outreach.

We believe in working together as a community to save lives and keep pets and their people together through kindness, empowerment, and trust.

Providing a Caring Haven

As a private, community-supported organization, we operate as a vital resource for animals in Southern Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Because we receive no government funding, our work is made possible exclusively through the generosity of our supporters and the dedication of our volunteers.

We strive for excellence in every aspect of animal care, ensuring that every pet that enters our facility receives the compassion they deserve while awaiting their forever home.

Our Approach to Care

We pride ourselves on being a no-kill shelter, maintaining a high save-rate by prioritizing the unique needs of each animal. From our robust safety net programs, which include pet food banks and behavior support, to our active spay/neuter clinics, we focus on proactive solutions that keep pets in their homes whenever possible.

For those who do come through our doors, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where our staff and volunteers focus on socialization and enrichment. We believe in being honest with our community about the reality of our work, always putting the animal’s best interest at the heart of every decision.

Your Next Best Friend

Finding the perfect match is a journey we are honored to assist you with. We encourage you to consider your family’s unique lifestyle and personality as you search for a companion who will thrive by your side.

Ready to meet your new family member? We invite you to browse our current adoptable pets online or visit us at our facility in Waynesboro. Together, we can provide a loving second chance for a pet in need.

10/10 - 🚨Saturday Spotlight!🚨 Meet Pistol Pete!🐾 Pistol Pete came to us in August 2026 when he was found as a stray. Pistol Pete arrived at the shelter with a prolapsed penis. We have since neutered him to help with this issue. Due to the amount of time it was prolapsed before receiving care, he may still require it to be manually retracted. Staff will review how to do this with potential adopters. To help in his recovery Pistol Pete was in a foster home. We learned that this handsome boy loves to snuggle! If you are looking for a velcro pup who love to give kisses, Pistol Pete is the boy for you. He has done well with dogs and cats, but dog meet and greets are required. Don't let his age fool you, Pete loves to play! He is still working on his manners when playing, but he is a good learner! Pistol Pete has been good around kids, but we recommend ages 7 and up due to his puppy play. If this gentleman sounds like the one for you, you can put in an application today! To meet Pistol Pete you will need an approved application and to schedule an appointment. He is 7 years old, 14 Ibs, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Kennel #2081

One of his favorite toys has been anything with a squeaker inside. He likes going on walks, and getting his zoomies out in the yard. Wolfie has separation anxiety, and he will need a home where someone can always be with him. He is still working on his leash manners, so he may need some extra help in his home. Wolfie is dog friendly and has lived with another dog, but meet and greets are required. He would need a cat free home. If you think this handsome boy is the one for you, you can put in an application today! He is 6 years old, 60lbs, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Kennel #2081

9/26 - Happy Saturday!🐾 Meet Mara! This sweet girl originally came to us as a kitten and has unfortunately found herself back in our care August 2026 due to her owner being unable to care for her. Mara is a very shy kitty but she has so much love to spare as soon as she realizes you're a friend! She loves having her head and cheeks rubbed, enjoys snuggling into cozy beds and laps, and is always down for a snack too. Mara isn't fond of loud noises, so she isn't doing the best in a shelter environment and hides often. Despite that, if you reach in to pet her she will immediately lean into your touch to show you how loving she is! Mara is good with other cats but does need a slow introduction with them because of how overwhelmed she gets. We have not seen her with dogs but think she would be quite scared of them. She is great with kids who are calm and gentle with her. Mara is 4 years old, spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. https://antietamhumanesociety.org/cat-adoptions/
