At EGAPL Heart of RI, we are committed to the rescue, quality care, and adoption of companion animals into loving forever homes. We believe every paw deserves a second chance and strive to guide our community toward responsible pet ownership through kindness and respect.
Founded in 1976 by a passionate group of animal advocates, our organization began as the East Greenwich Animal Protection League to create a safe haven for homeless pets in Rhode Island. After decades of operation and a pivotal move to our current home in Cranston, we have grown into one of the premiere rescue organizations in the state. Today, our 501c3 non-profit continues to thrive thanks to the dedicated support of our community.
As a volunteer-run organization, we are powered by compassionate individuals who handle everything from animal care and socialization to fundraising. We provide a safe, nurturing shelter environment where our team offers individualized care, medical support, and behavior guidance to every animal in our transition to a permanent home. Our facility at 44 Worthington Road serves as the hub where we prepare these pets for the next chapter of their lives.
We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are dedicated to helping you find the best possible match for your home and lifestyle. Our team reviews applications with care, considering an animal's personality, medical history, and specific needs to ensure a safe and successful transition. By choosing to adopt, you become part of the circle of care that saves lives and makes room for the next animal in need of a fresh start.
Are you ready to find your new best friend? We invite you to browse our current list of adoptable dogs and cats, or fill out an application to begin your journey today. We look forward to welcoming you to our shelter during our adoption hours to help you meet your future companion.
