Our Mission
PawsWatch is a volunteer-led, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Rhode Island’s community cats through compassionate care, spay/neuter initiatives, and finding loving homes for adoptable kittens and strays. We strive to reduce feline suffering and prevent the cycle of homelessness by providing medical support, shelter, and second chances to those who need it most.
Our Journey
Since our founding in Newport in 1997, PawsWatch has been a steadfast champion for the feral and free-roaming cat population. Over the last several decades, our 501(c)3 public charity has successfully funded veterinary care and spay/neuter services for over 25,000 cats across the state.

Our work is rooted in our innovative Community Cat Center, which serves as a vital hub for medical care, socialization, and recovery. Whether through our specialized TNRM (Trap-Neuter-Return-Manage) program or our dedicated on-site surgical suite, we work tirelessly to ensure every cat receives the attention they deserve. Our team of volunteers and veterinary professionals provides a safe, nurturing environment where cats can thrive before beginning their next chapter.

Because we value the well-being of our rescues, we facilitate thoughtful adoptions through an appointment-only process, ensuring each match is a perfect fit for both the cat and your family. Our adoption process is designed to be clear and supportive, covering essential care like spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and microchipping so your new friend starts their life with you in the best of health.
