The Rhode Island SPCA exists to protect and care for animals, providing a sanctuary for those in need of a second chance. We are dedicated to ensuring the welfare of all living things through compassionate service and advocacy.

Founded in 1870, we are proud to be the oldest non-profit animal welfare organization in Rhode Island. For over 150 years, we have served as a vital community resource, filling critical gaps in animal protection and owner support that no other organization provides.
How We Care
Our work is made possible through a blend of dedicated on-site shelter care and an active foster network, allowing us to support animals ranging from cats and dogs to horses and pigs. We are a private, non-profit organization that relies entirely on the generosity of our supporters, as we receive no local, state, or federal funding. Whether through our animal health center or our specialized outreach programs, we are here to support both pets and the people who love them.
