Pet Helpers Inc.

Our Mission

Pet Helpers Adoption Center and Spay/Neuter Clinic is dedicated to ending the euthanasia of all adoptable cats and dogs across the Lowcountry. We strive to be a vital resource for both pets and their people by promoting forever adoptions, humane education, and accessible veterinary care.

Our History

Founded by Carol Linville in 1978, Pet Helpers emerged from a compassionate need to provide refuge for Charleston’s homeless animals. Over the decades, we have grown from a small operation into a dedicated 14,000-square-foot facility, driven by the belief that every adoptable animal deserves a safe, loving life.

How We Care

We operate as a no-kill organization, ensuring that every cat and dog in our care receives comprehensive medical attention, including spay/neuter surgery and vaccinations. Beyond our shelter, we serve our community through a pet food bank, emergency veterinary assistance funds, and low-cost clinical services designed to keep pets healthy and in their homes. Our commitment to each animal goes beyond basic shelter, focusing on healing, enrichment, and building a stronger, more compassionate community.

Your Partner in Adoption

When you choose to adopt from Pet Helpers, you are not just gaining a loyal companion; you are saving two lives: the pet you bring home and the one who takes their place in our shelter. Our team works diligently to ensure a thoughtful, personalized adoption experience that sets both you and your new pet up for lasting success. We believe the bond you build with your rescue pet is a transformative partnership rooted in trust, kindness, and shared joy.

We invite you to experience the life-changing impact of adoption by visiting our center on Folly Road. 10/10 - 🌧️ THE RAIN ISN’T THE ONLY THING THAT’S BEEN OVERDRAMATIZED… 👀 Listen, we’ve all heard the forecasts. You’d think Mother Nature was planning a whole production. 🎭 And while we’re NEVER asking anyone to risk their safety to visit us, if the roads are safe, we have a little suggestion… MAKE IT A DATE. WITH A DOG. OR A CAT. 🐾❤️ It’s Adopt-Ober at Pet Helpers, which means 75% OFF ADOPTIONS ALL MONTH LONG! 🙌 A little rain? That’s just Mother Nature setting the mood for your new relationship. Imagine heading home with your new best friend, settling in for a cozy afternoon, and having a built-in snuggle buddy for every rainy day ahead. Honestly, sounds like a pretty good forecast to us. 🛋️🐶🐱 We have SO many adorable faces waiting to meet their match. Your fall companion could be one safe, rain-free trip away! ☔️ If it’s safe to travel, come meet your match! And if it’s not, browse our adoptable pets online and plan your visit for when the weather clears. Because the only thing we want falling this October is the number of animals at the shelter. 😉

9/30 - Your next boss has four legs. And they’re hiring. They’re looking for someone who can: 🐾 Take them for walks 🧹 Clean their kennels 🍽️ Serve their meals 🧸 Keep them entertained 🎓 Help them work on their manners 💬 Introduce them to potential adopters 💦 Get sweaty, dirty and covered in dog hair ❤️ And help them find their forever homes In exchange, they offer competitive compensation in the form of tail wags, happy dances, slobbery kisses and the occasional “I have decided you are my favorite person.” The humans call this job a Dog Animal Care Technician. The dogs just call it “the person who takes care of us.” It’s physical. It’s messy. It’s customer service. It’s animal care. It’s hard work—and it’s ridiculously rewarding. And with more dogs in our care than ever, the dogs need more humans on their team. 🐶 Pet Helpers is hiring Dog Animal Care Technicians. Come work for the best bosses you’ll ever have 🐶🐶🐶. They may not know how to fill out a timesheet, but they’re pretty great at employee appreciation. Apply through the link in bio.

9/25 - Our dogs have a lot of waiting to do while they search for their forever homes, and toys make that time a whole lot more fun. A game of tug, a squeaky toy, or a good old-fashioned game of fetch gives them a chance to burn off energy, engage their minds, and just be dogs for a little while. That's why we're launching Stuffing Happens: A Toy Drive for Pet Helpers! We're asking our community to help stock up on new and gently used pet toys for our dogs and cats. Because a little playtime can make a big difference in a shelter animal's day. Got toys? We've got 105+ dogs who would love to meet them. Our feline friends would appreciate a little fun, too. 😻 Help us keep the tails wagging, the paws playing, and the shelter days a little brighter!
