Welcome to Whiskers Animal Rescue & Sanctuary (W.A.R.S.), a dedicated 501c3 non-profit organization committed to fighting the war on homeless animals. Established in 2009 by Daren Watson, our mission is driven by over two decades of experience in animal rescue and advocacy. We focus on saving lives by pulling animals from high kill shelters, providing them with a safe haven, and working tirelessly towards their re-homing.
Our sanctuary spans nearly 40 acres of beautiful fields, wooded areas, and a tranquil pond, offering a cage-free environment for our animals to roam freely, unless medically or safety required. At W.A.R.S., we strongly believe in the power of spay and neuter programs to reduce the number of homeless animals and prevent the senseless killing of healthy, adoptable pets.
We proudly provide temporary care for lost, abandoned, or abused animals, ensuring they receive the medical attention they need until they find their forever homes. For those deemed non-adoptable due to age or health issues, we offer a safe and loving sanctuary for their life-long care.
The fight against euthanasia is at the heart of what we do. In Horry County, only 22.5% of shelter animals leave alive each year, and we are determined to increase this number through education, awareness, and dedicated outreach. Our smaller, efficient board focuses on swift action in animal rescue and spay/neuter initiatives.
At W.A.R.S., we do not maintain a physical facility; instead, all of our animals are cared for in loving foster homes. We are always seeking compassionate individuals to adopt, foster, or volunteer. Whether you can offer your time, donate resources, or spread the word, every effort is crucial in saving lives and promoting animal welfare.
Join us in creating a better future for homeless animals. Adopt, volunteer, or donate today, and help us continue our vital work in the community. Together, we can make a difference!
