Our Mission
Grand Strand Humane Society exists to improve the quality of life for companion animals by providing shelter and care to the lost, homeless, and unwanted animals in our community. We are dedicated to furthering the bond between people and animals through education and compassionate care.
Building a Future for Hope
As a proud member of the No-Kill South Carolina community, we made the conscious decision years ago to stop euthanizing healthy, adoptable animals for space. This commitment is the foundation of our work, and we are currently looking forward to a bright future as we build a new facility, A New Home for Hope, designed to serve our animals and the Myrtle Beach community for years to come.
How We Care
We are an open-admission shelter, providing a safe harbor and medical support for animals in need. Our dedicated team and volunteers work tirelessly to provide enrichment and care for every resident until they find their perfect family. We also extend our support to the public through low-cost veterinary services, ensuring that pets across our area receive the preventative care they deserve.

10/11 - Our final video of the evening is hard to talk about without being overwhelmed with emotion. If you've worked at, volunteered with, fostered for, donated to or followed GSHS over the last several years, you are sure to have seen Noah. This sweet boy came to us as an emaciated puppy on the brink of death. With intensive medical care and constant support, Noah survived and blossomed into the happy, playful boy we all know today. As he got older, Noah developed a few naughty behaviors that were a turn-off for some adopters. Fortunately, our Enrichment Coordinator, Nick, worked hard with Noah teaching him how to better control his zoomies and bursts of energy. But... he was still a large black pitbull stuck in an overcrowded shelter. Noah spent years watching all of his doggo friends go to forever homes while he remained in his crate here at the shelter. Through all of it, we never lost hope that the perfect family was out there just waiting to find him. And then Judi and Bruce stopped by. While meeting other dogs, they noticed Noah across the parking lot and said it was love at first sight. They took the extra time, worked with Nick to learn how to best handle Noah and then made the decision that he was, in fact, the missing piece they had been searching for. Noah went home yesterday, just seven days shy of his three year anniversary with us and there wasn't a dry eye in the shelter. Kelly is another GSHS team member who is always willing to fill in wherever she is needed... and there's nothing this girl can't do!! From lovingly caring for our shelter cats to diligently monitoring animals as they recover from surgery to somehow walking dogs twice her size, Kelly never ceases to amaze us!! 10/11 - Let's check in with our amazing Medical Coordinator, Kayla Kinney! She has a critical role at Grand Strand Humane Society managing the medical care of each and every animal housed both here at the shelter and in foster homes. While it is an unbelievably overwhelming task, you will never see Kayla falter. She remains calm under pressure, never loses patience with an animal or their caretaker and has a wealth of knowledge and skills to go along with her beautiful heart. 10/11 - Your next couch-side conversation is here! Terri Brobst has been a dedicated GSHS volunteer for over a decade now and has served on our Board of Directors for almost as long. Paisley is just one of the many kitties that Terri has fostered (and subsequently adopted ☺️) from Grand Strand Humane Society. In addition to her responsibilities as a board member, Terri enjoys coming to our Tanger location to get the kitties out of their cages for some playtime and cuddles. 10/11 - As our Surgical Coordinator, Jordan Bunce has one of the more technical jobs in the shelter. It is their responsibility to prepare for all of our surgeries, monitor each animal through anesthesia and ensure that they all move through recovery without incident. Their role requires constant vigilance and dedication and it is not something they take lightly. 10/10 - Lindsey Lou and GSHS alum Pugsley are joining us next! Lindsey does a little bit of everything here at Grand Strand Humane Society. Some days she is working at our front desk answering the phone and greeting visitors, other days she is assisting with our spay and neuter surgeries and sometimes she is providing direct care to our kitties at our Tanger location (she may argue that this is her favorite role). Lindsey is a true team player and is always willing to help wherever she is needed. 10/10 - Foster families are absolutely critical to our lifesaving mission here at Grand Strand Humane Society. In this video, Debbie Colletti (affectionately referred to as Mimi by our GSHS team) talks about what fostering means to her! Debbie is the kindest soul you will ever meet and not only does she provide exceptional care to our shelter babes.. she also takes care of our staff. 10/10 - Meet another one of the amazing people behind our mission! Jade Sotomayor is an Animal Care Technician here at GSHS who always manages to take a little extra time with the those who need it. She is talking to you tonight with her GSHS foster, Shy Guy, who used to spend all of his time hiding in the back of his crate terrified of human touch. After seeing how scared he was, Jade decided she wanted to bring Shy Guy home to work with him more than she could during her days at Tanger and just look at the result!!
