The McMinn Regional Humane Society is a community of dedicated animal lovers committed to saving lives and fostering the bond between pets and people. We work tirelessly to provide care for animals in need while promoting the joy of adoption throughout McMinn County and beyond.
Our story began in early 1990, when six passionate women gathered at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Athens, Tennessee, to create a resource that would support the City of Athens Animal Shelter. Since our official chartering later that year and our 1991 nonprofit status, we have grown into a vital organization focused on long-term operations, community education, and compassionate animal welfare.
We operate through a collaborative model that includes our Adoption Center and the Barbara S. Jackson Spay & Neuter Clinic, both located at our facility in Athens. By combining professional veterinary services with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, we ensure that every animal receives the care they deserve. Our programs, including our Keep Them Home initiative, focus on providing resources and support to keep pets happy and healthy with the families who love them.
We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and our thoughtful process ensures that every animal finds a safe and respectful environment tailored to their needs. Our team works hard to provide quality care for all residents, from senior dogs to kittens, as they wait for their forever homes. By prioritizing individual matches, we help create lasting connections that bring comfort and unconditional love to families.
