The Humane Society of Jefferson County exists to protect, serve, and advocate for the mutual benefit of the animals and citizens of our community. We are dedicated to providing a safe, compassionate environment for animals as they wait to find their forever homes.
Since our early days in 1978 as a foster-based group, we have grown into a dedicated non-profit organization. Today, we operate as a private, no-kill, limited-intake rescue, funded entirely by the kindness of private donors and grants.
We are proud to practice the Five Freedoms for all animals in our care, ensuring every pet has access to comfort, proper nutrition, and medical attention. Our Dandridge facility is designed to provide a nurturing space where animals can express their natural behaviors while awaiting adoption. By working with other East Tennessee rescues and offering essential services like a pet food pantry, we strive to keep pets healthy and supported within our community.
Finding a new best friend is a joyful journey, and our team is here to help you make the perfect match for your family and lifestyle. We prioritize thoughtful adoptions, which is why we conduct meet-and-greets to ensure harmony between your current pets and our adoptable animals. Every animal in our care is fully vetted, microchipped, and spayed or neutered before heading home to ensure a healthy start to your new life together.
You can make a difference in the life of a shelter pet today. We invite you to visit our website to view our adoptable pets, explore our volunteer opportunities, or learn how your support helps us continue our mission. Together, we can open our hearts to a friend for life.
