The Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley serves our region’s shelters, pets, and the people who love them through holistic, lifesaving initiatives and dedicated care. We are committed to unmasking brighter futures and joining companion animals with the people who love them.
Founded in 1885, we are the longest-standing animal shelter in the State of Tennessee. What began as a group dedicated to the prevention of cruelty has evolved over more than a century into a professional organization focused on ensuring all animals are treated with compassion and respect.
We operate differently by focusing on keeping pets and people together through services like our Pet Food Pantry and the PetHelp Program. Beyond our direct care, we collaborate with 55 partner shelters across the state to transfer in animals in need and work alongside local businesses and veterinarians to support continued animal wellness.
We believe in building lifelong partnerships between pets and their new families. Our conversational adoption approach allows us to learn about your unique lifestyle so we can suggest the perfect match for your home. We are here to make your adoption experience fun, easy, and informative, ensuring that every companion animal gets the second chance they deserve.
Every animal entering our doors brings a story, and you have the power to write the next, happy chapter. We invite you to visit our adoption center at 6717 Kingston Pike to meet our current residents or reach out to explore our foster and volunteer opportunities. Together, we can save lives, one paw at a time.
