Shelbyville Animal Control
Our Mission
The Shelbyville Animal Care and Control Division is dedicated to protecting and educating our community. We work tirelessly to ensure the safety of both our citizens and our animal companions through proactive outreach and professional service.
Supporting Our Community
Established as part of the Shelbyville Police Department, our division serves the needs of our city by addressing animal-related concerns with compassion and responsibility. We believe that public safety and animal welfare go hand-in-hand, and we strive to create a harmonious environment for everyone in Shelbyville.
How We Care
Our team, led by Deputy Chief Pat Mathis and Supervisor Mariah Teal, oversees a range of essential services including the impoundment of stray animals and the investigation of cruelty and abuse cases. We are committed to maintaining a facility that provides for the health and safety of every animal in our care. Beyond immediate care, we focus on education regarding rabies, the importance of altering pets, and compliance with local and state laws.
A Meaningful Partnership
Adopting a pet is a joyful commitment that transforms lives, and we are here to help you find the perfect companion. By promoting responsible pet ownership—such as keeping animals properly confined, vaccinated, and identified—we ensure that every animal has the best chance at a happy, healthy life in a loving home.
