Our Mission
Austin Bulldog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of English Bulldogs and other vulnerable dogs in need. We strive to provide every dog with a safe, nurturing environment and a second chance at a happy, healthy life.
Why We Rescue
Founded to provide specialized care for Bulldogs, we serve as a vital resource for dogs coming from shelters, other rescues, or homes where owners can no longer provide care. By combining medical support with breed-specific education, we empower our community to understand the unique needs of these wonderful companions.
How We Operate
As a volunteer-run, foster-based organization, we do not have a physical shelter facility. Instead, our rescued Bulldogs live in private foster homes across the Austin area, where they receive personalized care, training, and the love they deserve until they find their perfect forever families.

10/11 - If you need a little more silliness in your life, Sydney might just be your girl. This girl is equal parts goofy, cuddly, and full of personality. She’ll keep you laughing with her dramatic side eye, follow you around just to be near you, and happily accept all the booty scratches you’re willing to give. Sydney is still learning new things every day, but one thing is for sure: she has a whole lot of love to give and a whole lot of personality to go with it! 10/10 - Can you help Toby? The one thing we know about Toby is that he struggles horribly in boarding. He shuts down and becomes a shell of the dog he is. 💔 In a home he blossoms. His squatty little legs bounce happily, and he wags his tail with his whole body every time he sees his people. And that kind of happiness and comfort is all we want him to have, but by Monday if we can’t find him a foster he will be stuck going back to boarding. About Toby: ✅ He absolutely LOVES people ✅ Would do well with a friendly easy going dog (can be nervous initially so we want him to feel safe and at ease with a dog friend) ✅ He’s recovering from a foot surgery and a prostate infection ❤️🩹 ✅ He is now neutered and fully vaccinated ✅ Walks well on leash Sweet Toby is snorty, sweet, goofy, and will melt your heart! 10/9 - ⚠️ 3 BEAUTIFUL BOYS NEED FOSTERS. BUT WE NEED AN UNCOMFORTABLE CONVERSATION. ⚠️ First, incredible people continue showing up for these dogs, and we couldn’t do this without you. ❤️ But we’re seeing a heartbreaking pattern. People only want to foster girls, young healthy Frenchies, or ONE specific dog they saw in a cute video. We’re talking about FOSTERING. Not adopting. We’re asking people to temporarily open their homes to save lives, not choose lifelong companions. Yet wonderful dogs are overlooked because they aren’t someone’s favorite. It’s honestly heartbreaking. Then there are people who apply, even interview, and disappear when volunteers follow up. THE DOGS PAY THE PRICE. 💔 Every hour chasing unanswered messages is time we could spend saving another dog. Meanwhile dogs are left struggling in kennels and it’s heartbreaking.. And who’s trying to save them? VOLUNTEERS with jobs, families, and their own animals. Their time isn’t disposable. Neither are these dogs. We understand not every dog fits every home. We also appreciate those outside Austin wanting to help, but we cannot manage long-distance fosters. Our small volunteer team needs dogs close to our vets, emergency care, and local support. Please don’t attack us for these limitations. We’re doing our best with the resources we have. 10/9 - ❤️🩹 Today is a really big day for our precious little Duckie Today, we're going to find out whether surgery is even an option to try to save at least one of his eyes. We are truly on pins and needles. 😬 Whatever we learn today will help determine what the rest of this precious little boy's life looks like where his sight is concerned. We want so badly for him to have a chance to keep at least some of his vision. More than anything, we just want the very best future possible for him. Please, please send our sweet Duckie every positive thought, prayer, and bit of good energy you can muster today. 10/9 - Meet Frito, the curious little bulldog party starter! Frito is a playful, curious young guy who loves sniffing out adventures, investigating his surroundings, and turning toy time into a full-blown bulldog bash! 🎉 He’s happiest when his people join the fun, and when the attention is on him, expect happy wiggles, some gentle corncobbing, and the occasional bulldozer-style greeting! 😂 He’s also a gentle treat taker who’s eager to engage and learn, making him a fun buddy for training games, daily walks, and adventures together. 10/8 - Chantilly is the definition of a love bug. She’s happiest when she’s right by your side, leaning her whole body into you, following you from room to room, and soaking up every bit of affection she can get. She has a way of making herself part of your day without asking for much in return — just a little love and someone to share it with. She’s sweet, social, and full of those little quirks that make you wonder how she’s still waiting for her person. 10/7 - 🆘🚨‼️ CUTE PIGLET HUMPHREY STILL NEEDS A FOSTER ASAP‼️ 🚨🆘 We shared Humphrey’s story, and we’re back because this sweet boy STILL does not have a foster. ❤️ We know his situation may require a little more thought than the average foster, but the actual ask is pretty simple: a quiet, low-traffic, adults-only home with someone who understands boundaries and is willing to give him time to settle in. Someone who works from home would be especially ideal for Humphrey, since having his person around more often would help him feel secure while he gets comfortable in his new environment. He really needs that time to decompress and build trust. Humphrey is incredibly affectionate and loves his people. He has lived with other dogs before, and we believe he could do well with a friendly dog again. We are also continuing to work with his vet to better understand his sensitivity around his mouth being touched and whether pain could be contributing. He just needs someone willing to see Humphrey as a whole dog, give him a safe place to land, and help us figure out what comes next. He is still waiting. 10/7 - The snoring. The little noises. Allllll the wrinkles and mush just sitting there waiting to be kissed. The ability to fall asleep literally anywhere… including while standing up. 😴😂 Bulldog owners know there is absolutely nothing normal about these dogs, and somehow that is exactly what makes them so ridiculously lovable. 10/7 - Please don’t forget about Elora. ❤️ It has been a while since we shared an update on Elora, and we want to make sure she hasn’t been forgotten. ❗️ When Elora came into our care, she was profoundly neglected. She was found severely emaciated, with an extremely infected eye and clear signs that she had not received the care she needed. She was frightened, shut down, and understandably unsure of the people around her. The world had not been a particularly kind place for this little dog. 😣 Today, Elora is a very different dog. She is healthy, her painful eye has been removed, and she has slowly learned something incredibly important: people can be safe. ❤️ Elora is still shy and reserved, and we don’t expect that part of her to disappear. It is simply who she is. What has changed is her ability to trust. Once she feels comfortable with someone, she softens, accepts affection, and allows herself to be vulnerable. 🦋 Because of her history and her sensitive nature, Elora would truly do best as the only dog in her home. She needs a calm, low-traffic environment and a family who understands that trust isn’t something that happens overnight. It is something they will build with her, patiently and consistently, on her timeline. Please don’t forget about this girl. ❤️ And if you’ve ever looked through our page and found yourself drawn to the dogs who need a little more understanding, a little more patience, or a family willing to meet them exactly where they are, please consider Elora. 10/7 - ❤️ An update on Tapioca ❤️ When Tapioca came into our care, we honestly had no idea what we were up against. She had been found wandering the streets alone and ended up in a shelter with no microchip and no known history. When she was examined there, she was having a very difficult time getting around. She was uncoordinated, falling over, and her legs would give out while she was trying to walk. There were obvious neurological concerns, but without knowing anything about what had happened to her before she was found, we had very few answers. We brought her into ABR knowing that we might be facing something serious. At that point, our only job was to get her somewhere safe, get her properly evaluated, and figure out how to help her. 💔 Tapioca was diagnosed with a mild case of IVDD affecting her neck. She had an MRI and was evaluated by a neurologist, and thankfully, surgery was not recommended. She was already beginning to improve, and with medication and conservative treatment, she has continued to make progress. We are so happy to say that miraculously, this little girl is now thriving. ❤️ She is walking around, feeling good, and completely embracing her new life. 10/7 - Stetson is just sooooo bulldog. 😂 He makes the funniest noises, has opinions about just about everything, and is stubborn in the most bulldog way possible. He’s goofy, he’s ridiculous, and he somehow manages to make you laugh without even trying. He really is the definition of the breed, quirks and all. He’s the kind of boy who needs someone who understands the breed and loves everything that comes with it! Someone out there is going to absolutely adore Stetson. 10/7 - FRITO STILL NEEDS A FOSTER AND THEY’RE GONNA BE SOOOO LUCKY! 💛 First, we want to make something really clear: Frito does not need a new foster because his current fosters don’t love him. They absolutely adore this ridiculous boy. He needs a new foster because the longer we get to know him, the more we see how much he genuinely seems to crave playing and interacting with other dogs. And honestly, we feel like we would be failing him if we didn’t give him the opportunity to have that in his life. That feels especially important because Frito was once horribly misunderstood for the very same thing — his energy and his desire to PLAY. But now we’ve had time to really know him, and what we’ve discovered is a phenomenal, incredibly smart, silly dog who adores humans and thrives on engaging with them. His fosters have dubbed him Curious George because he is endlessly curious and needs to investigate absolutely everything happening around the house. 🙊 We’ve also learned that Frito is one of those elusive smart bulldogs we so rarely hear about. 😂 He’s some kind of Bulldog mix, although what exactly he’s mixed with is still a mystery. Smart dogs need structure, consistency and healthy ways to use their brains and bodies, and Frito is incredibly eager to please. He’s learning “off” and “down,” focuses on his approved chews and toys when his humans are busy, and walks nicely on leash. We would LOVE to find him a foster with a friendly, playful dog who can give him the social outlet we’re realizing he really wants. He also needs humans who enjoy actually doing life with their dog — walks, play, enrichment, adventures and then piling together on the couch afterward. Because Frito is also an enormous cuddle bug. ❤️ His preferred method of relaxing is basically laying his entire body directly on top of a human. He has absolutely no concept of his size. 😂 (No kiddos for this big goofy boy) We have gotten to know this boy SO well, and we just adore who he is. We cannot wait for someone else to get the chance to know this Frito too. Whoever gets to foster this ridiculous, wonderful boy really is going to be so lucky. 📩 FosterNeeds@austinbulldogrescue.com
