10/7 - 🧡Meet Atlas🧡 Atlas is a sweet, funky Dutch Shepherd mix who, unfortunately, doesn’t present himself very well in a kennel. Too often, people judge shelter dogs by the way they behave in a kennel: overwhelmed, barking, jumping, or looking intimidating. But a kennel can be a very stressful environment for a dog, and it doesn’t always show you who a dog really is. And 🧡Atlas🧡 is a perfect example of that. Take him out of the kennel, and you see a completely different dog. Once he’s outside, he becomes an amazing, obedient, goofy boy who already knows sit, paw, and down 🤓. He’ll happily roll onto his back for belly rubs, accepts pets willingly, seeks out affection, and is incredibly smart and eager to engage with you. Atlas may look intimidating when he’s at his most overwhelmed and vulnerable. But please don’t let the kennel be the only thing you see! Give Atlas a chance to show you who he really is - all he needs is for someone to look past the kennel and see the wonderful dog waiting on the other side🥹. 10/4 - Foster for the Day might seem sad to you, but for a shelter dog it’s a chance to touch grass, get fresh air, enjoy human affection, and decompress from a loud shelter environment. 🐶 And did you know that shelter dogs are 5x more likely to get adopted if they get a short break from the shelter? 🤯 Short-term fostering (even just for the day!) has tremendous benefits for our MCAS pups. Not only does it give them a much needed break, it also helps us see how they do outside of the shelter for potential adopters. It is truly a win-win. 🙌 SO MANY of our dogs find fosters or adopters shortly following their doggy day out. You can bring them back knowing you helped a shelter pup on their journey to their forever home. ❤️🐾 (See how much fun Landry had on his day out after this was filmed: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DeC57ylvN1U/?stkn=YjFwYTVjczh4eHJ4) Never done a foster day out? 9/23 - 🐾 Meet Winnie, our Dog of the Week! 🐾 Black dogs and pitties are often overlooked in shelters, which means a dog like Winnie can be easily passed over without ever getting the chance to show who she really is. But our volunteers took the time to get to know her—and Winnie made quite the impression. ❤️ Here is what they loved about her: 🥹 Those eyes! Winnie has the sweetest puppy-dog eyes that just beg for more attention (and treats!) 💕 Winnie loved affection and happily climbed into volunteers’ laps for cuddles and kisses. And when the pets stopped? She gently pawed at them for more. She made it very clear that she wasn’t finished being loved on yet. 🎾 Winnie had a playful side, but she was also a pretty calm girl who was content to just lay in the sun. 🐶 She shares her kennel with another dog, Bluey, and handled his energetic personality with patience. 🦮 She walked well on leash and didn’t react to dogs passing by. Winnie has her quirks, like every other dog out there- for example, she is not a fan of sheep or vetting. But we hope she soon finds her forever family willing to give her a second chance at a better life. Come meet her! 📌Winnie | A431075 | Spayed Female | 2 Years Old | 45 lbs ⏳ Waiting 48 days for a home 📍 Montgomery County Animal Shelter 8535 SH 242, Conroe, TX 77385 📞 FOSTER INQUIRIES: 📧 foster.coordinator@mctx.org 📩 RESCUE INQUIRIES: mcassist@mctx.org 🏠 ADOPTION INQUIRIES: shelter.counter@mctx.org Adoptions open Tuesday - Sunday, 11:30am–5pm, No appointment necessary #AdoptDontShop #ShelterDog #BlackDogLove #PitBullLove

9/22 - Freddie’s Shelter Break 🏠❤️ Freddie recently spent some time outside the shelter, and we can’t stop smiling at this foster report 😊: Sweet Freddie came over for a shelter break/spend the night party so I could learn a bit about him to share. Freddie is quite timid at the shelter, and truthfully, I thought his flight risk was much higher than it turned out to be (he is no dummy-he thought I will just hang out here❤️). Things I learned… 🏠 HOUSEBROKEN. Zero accidents, zero marking. 👏🏻 🚗Champion car rider! Easy to load, chills in the back seat. 🐈 Kitties…. kitty curious meter high. I think he really wanted to play but I would exercise caution in case the play got a little aggressive…he certainly was not trying to harm the kitty. 🐾 Very tolerant of resident dogs. (Yippy little dogs at that…) 💁‍♂️ Men-can’t tell. He took treats from my husband- but was way more interested in me. 👶 Kids untested… 🚪Mastered dog door day 2! 🌩️ Loud noises- the garage door is not his favorite but vacuums, dust busters, football🏈, lawn equipment all ok with him. 🦴 Treats-The most gentle treat taker…😊 🐕‍🦺 Loose leash walking pro. 🛒 Lowe’s was a little scary at first but then was pretty cool-especially the plants🪴 to sniff. 📚Things we need a little work on. NOT A FAN of the kennel after attachment started forming. He did not attempt to get out but I finally relented and let him out for bed time after quite a bit of crying-it only took two redirects to keep him off the human bed. Not my rule, but I like being married.👩‍❤️‍👨 In the morning he had some understandable, so happy, happy, happy to see you jumpies that he responded well to redirection. He is still young and super trainable and well past the puppy stage. Please share so we can find him his forever home! 📌Freddie | A426888 | Neutered Male | 2 Years Old | 60 lbs ⏳Waiting 165 days for a home 📍 Montgomery County Animal Shelter 8535 SH 242, Conroe, TX 77385 📞 FOSTER INQUIRIES: 📧 foster.coordinator@mctx.org 📩RESCUE INQUIRIES: mcassist@mctx.org 🏠ADOPTION INQUIRIES: shelter.counter@mctx.org Adoptions open Tuesday - Sunday, 11:30am–5pm, No appointment necessary

9/19 - ⭐️Foster Feature ⭐️: Meet Jones, a gentle giant that will steal your heart. This 62 pound Rottweiler and Lab mix is the perfect gentleman! We’ve been fostering him for almost a month now and we have learned so much about him in such a short time. Like how he loves meeting new people and dogs, and gives cats lots of space and respect. He’s a curious boy still learning so much about being in a loving home. It took lots of convincing to show him that the dog bed was in fact for him, and now it’s his favorite spot to nap. He doesn’t tear up anything, not even toys! He doesn’t pull on the leash or jump. He’s so demure and charming it’s hard to believe that he was a street dog just six months ago. He is still learning tricks and commands, but he gives us his full attention and is eager to learn. Jone’s floppy ears, expressive eyebrows, and big wagging tail will melt your heart. We just know he’s meant to be someone’s forever best friend!
