The Love Pit is a community-driven movement dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and advocating for bully breeds. We work every day to build a more compassionate world where these misunderstood dogs are valued, not feared.
Our Story
Our organization was inspired by Sweet Pea, a stray pit bull discovered by our founder, Aften, in 2015. Despite her neglected past, Sweet Pea’s resilience sparked a viral outpouring of kindness that transformed into a mission to save thousands of bully breeds, ensuring they receive the second chance they truly deserve.

We pride ourselves on a foster-based foundation where dogs live in real homes to build confidence and trust. For those needing extra support, our modern facility provides a clean, safe environment for rehabilitation, rather than traditional boarding. This approach allows us to get to know each dog’s personality and needs on a personal level.

9/27 - Socialization shouldn’t be a free-for-all. 👀 Unlike the unpredictability of a dog park, structured socialization gives dogs the opportunity to practice neutrality, build confidence, and learn around other dogs at their own pace. This morning, ALL 8 of our HQ residents participated in The Love Pit’s monthly socialization class, thanks to our incredible volunteers. Our classes are also open to TLP fosters and alumni! 9/17 - Scooby got his yes. 🧡 When he needed more care than the shelter could provide, your support gave The Love Pit’s Thrive program the resources to say yes — to his medical care, his recovery, and the time he needed to get well. That yes eventually led Scooby from medical boarding, to HQ, to a foster home, and finally, home. Today is North Texas Giving Day, and there will be another Scooby. Another bully breed sitting in a shelter who needs more care than the shelter has the resources to provide. We want to be able to say yes to them, too. 9/17 - Jules spent her first 10 years surviving. At 10 years old, she landed in a shelter - underweight, heartworm positive, carrying the scars of a life that had not been easy. And then she surprised everyone. She gave birth to one tiny baby boy. Sprout. 🌱 Now Jules is safe in a foster home, getting the medical care, good food and love she deserves. And Sprout? He gets to grow up knowing only what his mama should have known all along: safety. Jules still has a road ahead of her. Once Sprout is weaned, she’ll need surgery and heartworm treatment. Sprout is now being bottle-fed as he grows stronger every day. But they’re not facing any of it alone. This is THRIVE. ❤️ We can’t change Jules’ first 10 years. 9/17 - Some rescue stories don’t end at adoption. Sometimes, they come full circle. ❤️ In 2016, Harlow found her person through The Love Pit’s iREHOME program. She went on to spend nearly a decade exactly where she belonged — deeply loved, completely adored, and very much part of a family. And when Harlow’s time here ended, the impact of that one successful rehome didn’t. Her mom came back to The Love Pit. Today, she volunteers with iREHOME, helping other dogs find the same chance Harlow had all those years ago. 🥹 That is why programs like iREHOME matter. Texas shelters and rescues are overwhelmed. We simply cannot foster our way out of the current overpopulation crisis. Every dog who can safely move from one loving home to another is a dog who never has to enter an overcrowded shelter or take a desperately needed foster space. And for bully breeds, who are especially vulnerable in the shelter system, that path can be lifesaving. Harlow got her chance in 2016. Now, because of her, other dogs are getting theirs. ❤️ They belong in homes. They belong with families. They belong.
