Our Mission
The Denison Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) is dedicated to saving the homeless animals of Denison, Texas, through a successful adoption program. Our mission is to provide care for abused, neglected, abandoned, or unwanted animals and to eliminate the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets.
Our Story
Since our establishment in 2014, DAWG has served as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization driven by a community of dedicated volunteers. We are proud to have achieved a 99% live release rate in our first three years of operation, reflecting our commitment to the animals in our care.
How We Care for Our Animals
Operating from our facility at 3307 S Eisenhower Pkwy, we offer a comprehensive rescue and rehabilitation model. Our animals receive essential medical care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter services, and treatment for conditions like heartworms, all supported by a strong network of local partners and volunteers. We also utilize a foster network to provide extra love and attention to those who need it most while they wait for their forever homes.

KTEN joins the 12th annual Clear the Shelters campaign this August to help find homes for pets at the Denison Animal Welfare Group shelter. With a variety of dogs, cats, and small animals waiting, potential adopters can check online listings or visit the shelter to give a pet a loving home this month.

10/8 - 🐶✨ WARNING: RJ’S SMILE IS HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS! ✨🐶 Meet RJ, the handsome charmer who clearly missed his calling as a professional heartthrob! One look at that big ol’ grin and BAM! You’re smiling too! RJ is a 5-year-old, 58 pound mixed-breed gentleman with a face that says, “Yep, I’m adorable. What are you going to do about it?” He’s got the sweetest smile, a wonderfully handsome face, and plenty of love to give. RJ is ready to trade his shelter digs for a comfy home, a cozy spot on the couch, and a person who appreciates a guy who is done with puppy shenanigans and has a gentlemanly disposition. 10/7 - 💚 Meet Zuez: A Little Wobbly, A LOT Wonderful! 💚 Some dogs need a little extra care. Zuez just needs a little extra understanding. This handsome one-year-old mixed breed boy weighs a perfectly midsized 44 pounds and has the sweetest floppy ears, gentle eyes, and an even gentler heart. Zuez is friendly, affectionate, and comes when he’s called, so he’s already got some good manners! Zuez does have a special need. He has a slight wobble when he walks, and we don’t know exactly why. Thankfully, that appears to be his only special consideration. His forever family will simply need to be mindful around steps and understand that every now and then, Zuez might bump into a piece of furniture. But here’s the thing about Zuez: he doesn’t know he’s different. He just knows he wants to be loved, included, and part of a family. Zuez came to us with his dad RJ. They are bonded and play well together. They can be adopted separately. But for a very special adopter who can adopt both, DAWG will negotiate the adoption fee. Maybe you have a little extra patience or a little extra compassion. Or maybe you just have a bigger heart for the dogs who need someone to believe in them. If that sounds like you, please meet Zuez. 9/29 - Meet Amos, a 3-year-old, 51-pound Husky mix with a heart as big as his fluffy, white coat! This handsome boy is friendly, outgoing, energetic; and he has already figured out one very important trick: putting himself in a sit when he wants some love. 🥰 Amos is still working on his leash manners, but he’s improving and eager to learn. 9/27 - Say hello to beautiful pup Tilly! This sweet 8-month-old mixed-breed girl weighs 32 pounds, putting her squarely in the “not too big, not too small” category! Tilly is very friendly and affectionate, and she’s already showing that she’s ready to learn. She knows “sit,” is working on “wait,” and her leash skills are getting better every day. At her age, Tilly is at a wonderful stage for guidance, positive training and plenty of love. 9/25 - After raising her puppies like the superstar mom she is, Salem is finally ready for something she’s never truly had—a family all her own! At 2 years old and 49 pounds, this beautiful Pit Bull mix has traded midnight feedings for dreams of cozy couches, leisurely walks, and someone who’ll tell her she’s the best girl every single day. Salem has been living in a foster home, so she’s already familiar with life inside a house. She’s a little shy when meeting new people, but give her a little patience and you’ll discover a gentle, affectionate sweetheart who just wants to be close to her people. And Salem is friendly to other sweet dogs! Salem’s foster has been working with her on crate training. She’ll thrive in a calmer home where she can feel safe, secure, and loved. She would need a yard with a taller, smooth fence, since she is able to jump shorter fences. Salem has spent her life giving love to everyone else. His beautiful black, white and grey speckled-and-spotted coat makes him stand out, but it’s his sweet personality that really steals the show! 9/17 - 🧐Tossed salad and scrambled eggs, indeed! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Frazier. Four years old. Forty-three pounds. Basenji mix. Connoisseur of leisurely walks, gracious greetings, and the finer things in life such as squeaky toys, soft couches, and humans who appreciate impeccable company. Now, some have commented on my ear. One stands proudly at attention while the other has embraced a more . . . avant-garde interpretation of architecture. I prefer to think of it as an artistic flourish. Picasso had his blue period. I have my flippy ear. I’m sociable without being overbearing, athletic without showing off, and charming without even trying. I stroll beautifully on a leash and possess the sort of warm, friendly personality that makes strangers smile before they’ve even said hello. Frankly, I feel a bit of ennui sitting in my kennel at the shelter. I’d much rather be discussing the day’s events with my favorite person, supervising snack preparation, or accompanying you on civilized neighborhood promenades.
