Our Mission
The Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) is dedicated to saving, sheltering, protecting, and advocating for all animals in need. Our vision is to build a community where pets and people save each other.
Our History
As the oldest animal welfare organization in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we have been serving animals and the people who love them since 1905. Over the last century, we have evolved to meet the changing needs of North Texas, constantly growing our lifesaving efforts to better support our community.
How We Care
HSNT is much more than an animal shelter; we are a dedicated resource for the entire region. We operate two main pet adoption centers in Tarrant County, along with a network of offsite cat adoption centers and an equine ranch in Johnson County.
Through a blend of shelter care, robust foster programs, and community services, we ensure that every animal receives the attention and support they deserve. In 2025 alone, we successfully placed over 5,500 pets into loving homes while maintaining a remarkable 96% live release rate.

More than 22,500 pets found homes last week during PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week! 🐾 That includes 5,282 dogs, 17,032 cats, and 255 rabbits, turtles and other pets 🐕🐈⬛🐇🐢 We also crossed 200,000 adoptions in PetSmart stores so far this year🎉 What a week of joy, made possible through partnership. Thank you to Hill's Pet Nutrition for being our NAW sponsor, KONG Company for donating 7,500 toys to shelters in six markets, Humane Society of North Texas, and Wings of Rescue for collaborating on a huge transport, and Brandywine Valley SPCA for moving into another Everyday Adoption Center! We are so grateful for our PetSmart store teams, adoption partners and our generous donors; all of YOU made thousands of happy matches possible!
