Our Mission
The Galveston Island Humane Society is dedicated to promoting animal welfare and the protection and prevention of unwanted or homeless animals on Galveston Island. We are here to build a better future for pets and the people who love them.
Our History and Purpose
Founded in 1981 by concerned citizens, our organization has served as a cornerstone for animal welfare in our community for over four decades. We recognize the high number of homeless pets in our city and work diligently to provide vital resources that keep pets safe, healthy, and within the families who love them.
How We Operate
As an open-admission shelter, we accept all homeless pets from Galveston Island, even when we are at capacity. Our team, comprised of a dedicated board of directors, compassionate staff, and active volunteers, ensures every animal receives care, medical treatment, and affection while awaiting their second chance. We also manage community-wide initiatives, such as our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, to reduce overpopulation at the source.
