Welcome to the Galveston Island Humane Society (GIHS), a haven for unwanted and homeless animals since 1981. As a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we take pride in our mission to promote animal welfare and prevent the suffering of animals in our community.
At GIHS, we embrace an open admission policy, accepting every homeless pet that comes through our doors, even when our shelter is full. This commitment ensures that no pets are left behind, and we actively work to find loving homes for every animal in our care. Our shelter goes beyond simply providing refuge; we aim to reunite lost pets with their families and facilitate adoptions for pets eagerly awaiting their forever homes.
Our organization thrives on a strong foundation of community involvement, with a board of directors, caring staff, and dedicated volunteers working in unison to elevate the standards of animal care. We are invested in enriching the lives of pets through comprehensive training programs, proactive spay/neuter initiatives, and community education aimed at responsible pet ownership.
GIHS values community partnerships and strives to educate the public on the importance of humane treatment and care for animals. Our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program is just one example of our innovative approaches to managing the feral cat population while providing community members with the resources they need for thoughtful pet stewardship.
We invite you to join us in our mission to ensure that every pet on Galveston Island can enjoy a loving home. Whether through adoption, volunteering, or making a donation, every act of kindness helps us to continue our vital work and improve the lives of countless animals.
Become part of the Galveston Island Humane Society family and help us make a difference in the lives of animals and the community at large. Thank you for your support!
