Our Mission
The Humane Society of Young County is dedicated to providing a safe haven for unwanted animals while advocating for the welfare of every pet in our community. We believe every animal deserves a chance at a loving, forever home.
Serving Our Community Since 1979
Established in 1979, our organization has been a steadfast resource for the stray and unwanted animals of Graham, Olney, Newcastle, and all of Young County. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, we rely on the support of our neighbors to continue our work, as we do not receive state or national funding.
Our Care Model
We are an open-intake shelter that provides food, shelter, vaccinations, enrichment, and socialization for the animals in our care. Our facility includes specialized cat rooms with catios, indoor/outdoor dog kennels, and exercise yards to ensure our residents stay comfortable and happy. We also partner with the P.E.T.S. Clinic to provide low-cost spay, neuter, and preventative services, as we strongly believe that managing overpopulation is the most compassionate path forward.
A Thoughtful Match
We want to ensure your new best friend is the perfect fit for your life, which is why we utilize an application and meet-and-greet process. By taking the time to approve applications and facilitate thoughtful introductions, we reduce stress for our dogs and cats and ensure they transition successfully into their new homes. We check veterinarian references to confirm that every animal is going to a safe, life-long environment.
