Welcome to the Humane Society of Young County, dedicated to providing a safe haven for the unwanted animals in our community since 1979. We operate as an open intake shelter serving the areas of Graham, Olney, Newcastle, and Young County, ensuring that every animal in need receives shelter, food, medical care, and an abundance of love. As a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we are deeply committed to animal welfare and rely heavily on the generosity of our community. Approximately 74% of our annual operating budget comes from donations, reflecting the caring spirit of our supporters and emphasizing the importance of community involvement in achieving our mission. Our facilities include spacious areas designed to accommodate both cats and dogs. We have two cat rooms featuring outdoor enclosed catio spaces, while our dog facilities boast 24 indoor/outdoor kennels and eight fenced yards for exercise and enrichment. We aim to enhance the quality of life for our resident animals through comfort, socialization, and enrichment activities. Education is at the forefront of our mission. We actively promote the need for spaying and neutering as the critical solution to the overpopulation issue facing our community. By working alongside local animal control and law enforcement, we offer support for stray animals until they can find permanent homes. For those interested in adoption, we carefully vet potential adopters through an application process to ensure the best fit for each pet's needs. Our adoption fees are set at $125 for dogs and $75 for cats, and we encourage approved applicants to schedule meeting times to find their perfect companion without the stress of frequent kennel foot traffic.
