The Clay County Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing a compassionate alternative to euthanasia for abandoned cats and dogs in Clay County, Texas. We take in, care for, and train our animals while working tirelessly to find them their forever homes, no matter how long it takes.
Founded in 2000 in Henrietta, TX, our shelter is affectionately known as Annie’s Dream. It was established by local residents Annie McClintock and veterinarians Drs. Steve and Polly McDonald to serve as a no-kill sanctuary for animals in need.
We are a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization that functions as a home base for up to 85 animals at a time, including 40 dogs and 45 cats. Open 365 days a year, our dedicated team of employees and volunteers provides essential care, training, and socialization to ensure every animal is ready for their next chapter.
We believe in making the perfect match by carefully considering each animal's temperament, personality, and medical needs alongside your family's unique lifestyle. Because we prioritize these thoughtful, long-term placements, we are very careful in our selection process to ensure that your new companion becomes a true member of your family for life.
If you are ready to open your heart and home, we invite you to browse our wonderful adoptable animals or join our community of volunteers. Whether you are looking for a new best friend or want to make a difference in the lives of our rescues, we would love to have you on our team.
