Citizens for Animal Protection is dedicated to caring for pets in need through high-quality sheltering, adoption services, humane education, and community outreach. We exist to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, advocating for a world where every animal is treated with compassion and respect.
Founded in 1972 by a group of concerned Houstonians, our organization began as a grassroots effort to address the urgent needs of neglected and abused animals. Over the decades, we have grown from a small group of volunteers into a major force for animal welfare, now operating from our permanent home at the Jane Cizik Center.
As a managed intake shelter, we are committed to providing a safe, temporary home for animals while they await their forever families. We maintain a high standard of care through our shelter facility, a dedicated foster network, and the Cornelius Wellness Clinic, which provides affordable health services to the community. We rely on the generosity of private donors and our incredible volunteer force to sustain these vital programs.
Adoption is the joyful start of a lifelong partnership, and we believe in thoughtful matching to ensure every pet finds the perfect home. When you adopt from us, you aren't just gaining a companion—you are becoming part of a compassionate community that values the lives of homeless animals.
Are you ready to find your new best friend? We invite you to browse our adoptable pets online or visit our shelter to meet the animals waiting for your love. Together, we can continue to create happy beginnings for the pets who need them most.
