City of Houston, Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care
Your Next Best Friend is Waiting
As the City of Houston’s municipal animal shelter, BARC is dedicated to giving thousands of animals a second chance at finding a loving home every year. We believe every pet deserves a family, and we are here to help you start your adoption journey today.
Our Commitment to Houston
Caring for more than 22,000 animals annually, BARC serves as a vital community resource for homeless pets in need. We are proud to be the heart of animal care in the City of Houston, working tirelessly to ensure these animals receive the care and attention they deserve while they wait for their forever families.
How We Care for Our Animals
Our animals thrive in both our shelter facility and through our extensive foster program, which helps pets relax, learn routines, and display their unique personalities in a home environment. Whether they are staying with us at our shelter or in a loving foster home, every animal at BARC receives medical attention including spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, and microchipping to ensure they are ready for their new life.
The Joy of Adoption
Adoption is a wonderful partnership, and our team is committed to helping you find the perfect match for your lifestyle. We invite you to visit our shelter to meet our pets in person, where our staff can answer your questions and guide you through the process of bringing your new companion home. We strive to make every adoption a successful, joyful experience for both you and your new pet.
