Houston Cares Animal Rescue
Our Mission
Houston Cares Animal Rescue is a dedicated community of animal lovers working together to save lives and transform the future for animals in Houston. Through a multi-pronged approach of rescue, education, and advocacy, we strive to make a lasting, positive difference for homeless pets.
Our Roots
Founded as Westbury CARE by a small group of neighbors, our organization grew into a 501c3 non-profit because the need for animal welfare in our city is so great. While we have grown significantly, we remain deeply committed to the community-focused spirit upon which we were built.
How We Operate
We are a 100% volunteer-run, foster-based rescue. Our animals live in loving, private homes where they receive the care, socialization, and security they need to prepare for their forever families. We provide full veterinary care, nutrition, and training support, ensuring every animal is set up for success.
A Meaningful Connection
Because our animals live in foster homes, we have a unique understanding of their personalities and temperaments. This fosters a thoughtful matching process where we can see how they interact with families and other pets. When you adopt from us, you aren't just getting a pet; you are starting a joyful partnership that saves two lives: the one you adopt and the one you make space for in our foster network.
