At the Rita B. Huff Humane Society of Walker County, we believe that every animal deserves a second chance to find a loving, forever home. Our mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals through shelter, adoption, and advocacy, matching loving owners with their new loyal companions.
Founded in 1982 by a group of dedicated local citizens, we honor the legacy of Dr. Rita B. Huff, a passionate advocate who envisioned a community where every animal is treated with compassion and dignity. Since our founding, our nonprofit has served as a beacon of hope for abandoned and homeless animals, relying entirely on the generosity of our community to sustain our life-saving mission.
We are a proud No-Kill organization, which means we never euthanize for space. Our new state-of-the-art facility, located on Veterans Memorial Parkway, provides a comfortable, clean, and safe environment for our animals, featuring 44 indoor/outdoor dog kennels, spacious cat rooms, and dedicated medical suites. We focus on providing high-quality care, rehabilitation, and medical attention while our residents wait for their perfect match.
We believe that adopting a pet is a joyful, life-changing experience, and our knowledgeable staff is here to help you navigate the process. By getting to know your home and lifestyle, we ensure that every placement is a thoughtful, lasting partnership that benefits both the animal and your family.
Come meet your new best friend at our Huntsville location, open Monday through Friday from 12 PM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 12 PM to 4 PM. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or support our work through donations, your involvement directly saves lives. We invite you to visit us today to see how you can make a difference in the life of a shelter pet.
