Our mission is to protect and save the lives of animals in need while strengthening Fayette County through responsible pet ownership and community education. We believe that when animals and people thrive together, we build a safer, kinder community for everyone.
Our History
Since 1994, Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter has served as a sanctuary for the stray and abandoned animals of Fayette County. Over three decades, we have evolved from our humble beginnings into a vital resource that provides second chances to thousands of dogs and cats every year.
How We Care
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, not taxpayer-funded, meaning every life saved is powered by the generosity of our community. From our recently expanded facility, we provide a high standard of care for every animal, guided by the Five Freedoms and supported by dedicated staff and volunteers. We focus on ending overpopulation through extensive spay and neuter efforts while providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for pets awaiting their forever homes.

Because we know each animal by name and personality, our team excels at making the right match, with most adopters finding their new best friend the very same day they visit. We are here to set you up for success, offering resources and guidance to help your new companion adjust comfortably to your life.

Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in volunteering, or want to learn about our outreach programs, we invite you to come by Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. No appointment is needed to start your journey with us.

Both received wonderful interest from shoppers, and we hope those connections lead to forever homes! 🐶❤️ 🛒 A HUGE THANK YOU TO H-E-B! 🛒 We are incredibly grateful to H-E-B for partnering with the Gardenia E.
