Welcome to the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS), a non-profit organization dedicated to serving Fayette County, Texas, since 1994. We are committed to providing care and a safe shelter for homeless and unwanted dogs and cats, with a mission to rehome every healthy and adoptable animal.
At GJAS, we pride ourselves on our exceptional live release rate, achieving an impressive 97% in 2023. This success stems from our tireless efforts to enrich the lives of dogs and cats in our care until they can find loving forever homes. Our organization is primarily funded by generous donations, community grants, and significant fundraising initiatives.
Our dedicated team consists of six paid employees and a passionate, volunteer Board of Directors, ensuring that our shelter operates smoothly and effectively. We also rely heavily on the invaluable support of our volunteers who help with various tasks, from dog walking to fostering animals in need.
In addition to sheltering animals, GJAS is proud to engage in community education. We emphasize the importance of preventing animal cruelty as well as promoting spay and neuter practices to reduce the number of unwanted pets in our area.
Whether you're looking to adopt a furry friend, volunteer your time, or make a donation, GJAS invites you to join us in our mission to save lives and advocate for animal welfare. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of countless animals in our community.
We look forward to welcoming you to our shelter located at 240 Svoboda Lane, La Grange, Texas. We are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with special hours for reclaims on Mondays. Join us in this heartfelt endeavor to create a better tomorrow for animals in need!
