Humane Society of Angelina County
A Compassionate Mission
The Winnie Berry Humane Society of Angelina County is dedicated to stopping the suffering and death of unwanted pets by preventing overpopulation, educating our community, and providing a safe, nurturing shelter for homeless animals. As the only no-kill shelter in the region, we are committed to providing services that improve animal welfare and finding loving, forever homes for every animal in our care.
Our Story
Our journey began on a cold winter day in 1959, when a group of concerned citizens led by our founder, Winnie Berry, decided that the homeless animals of Angelina County deserved a better future. Since receiving our 501(c)3 status in 1964 and opening our current facility on John Redditt Drive in 1993, we have grown into a vital community resource. Today, we continue to carry forward Winnie's inspiring legacy, serving as a beacon of hope for animals and a symbol of humane solutions to pet homelessness.
How We Help
Operating as a private, independent 501(c)3 non-profit, we rely on the generosity of our supporters and local grants to maintain our shelter and provide critical services, including our income-based, low-cost spay and neuter program. We are proud to be the only no-kill shelter for a stretch of several hours' drive, ensuring that animals in our facility receive the care, medical attention, and compassion they deserve while awaiting their new families. We are not affiliated with any national organizations, meaning every donation stays local to support our mission.
