Abandoned Animal Rescue works to end the pet overpopulation that leads to the unnecessary euthanasia of cats and dogs. We achieve this by providing a dedicated rescue and adoption center, championing the importance of spaying and neutering, and educating our community on humane animal ownership.
Founded in 2002 by Angie Fenton, Barbara Schulz, and James Gordon, we began in a humble converted liquor store. Over the years, with the support of our generous donors, we grew from a small shelter into our current seven-acre facility in Magnolia, which features a cattery, clinic, and Clark’s Bark Park for our residents.
AAR is entirely managed and maintained by a dedicated team of approximately 40–50 volunteers who care for the animals every day. We operate as a limited admission shelter, ensuring each animal receives personalized attention, medical care, and behavioral support. We treat every pet in our care as if they were our own, never euthanizing a healthy, treatable, or manageable animal to make space.
We believe in the power of conversation-based adoptions to help you find your perfect match. Our adoption counselors work closely with you to understand your lifestyle and environment, ensuring a transition that is joyful and successful for both you and your new companion. Because we provide thorough vetting—including vaccinations, microchipping, and spay/neuter services—you can feel confident starting your new life together.
Every adoption saves two lives: the pet you bring home and the one who takes their place in our care. We invite you to explore our available dogs and cats online or visit us at our Magnolia center to meet our wonderful animals in person. Together, we can make our community a safe haven for every homeless pet.
