Welcome to the Humane Society of Harrison County (HSHC), a dedicated organization that has proudly served the communities of Marshall, Texas, and Harrison County since its incorporation on February 10, 1967. For nearly 58 years, we have upheld our mission to prevent cruelty to animals, relieve their suffering, and educate the community on humane animal care.
At HSHC, we believe that adopting a pet saves lives. Our commitment to animal welfare is demonstrated through our comprehensive services, including pet adoption, spaying and neutering, and community outreach programs. We operate exclusively on the generous donations, memorials, and honors contributed by our supporters, ensuring that a remarkable 95% of these funds directly support the basic operations of our organization.
Our volunteers are the heartbeat of our mission. Their valiant efforts allow us to engage with the community through educational programs, school field trips, and events that promote compassionate animal care. By sharing knowledge, we help current and future pet guardians enrich their lives with healthy, rewarding relationships with their pets.
As an integral part of the Harrison County community, we address local challenges such as pet homelessness and neglect. Our outreach initiatives provide essential services, including pet food distribution, no-cost spay/neuter coupons for low-income families, and supplies for pets in need. We offer a safe haven for both animals and people who seek companionship and solace in our Pet Place.
In our commitment to animal welfare, we take in around 400 animals annually, many of whom require extensive veterinary care. No animal is ever turned away, and all receive the love and attention they deserve as they transition into new homes. Our “Senior Sweeties” initiative specifically addresses the needs of our older animals, ensuring that they receive the medical care necessary for a healthy life.
At the Humane Society of Harrison County, we are “in it for the long haul.” We are dedicated to our mission, our animals, and the greater community. We invite you to join us as we work towards a future filled with compassion and care for all animals.
We do not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex, and we welcome you to become a part of the HSHC community. Your contributions, whether through donations, volunteering, or membership, play a vital role in improving the lives of our furry friends. Together, we can continue our important work and strive toward our century mark!
