Animal Preservation of East Texas (APET)
Our Mission
The Animal Preservation of East Texas (APET) is dedicated to reducing the population of unwanted cats and dogs in Wood County, Texas, while actively working to end animal cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. We believe in building a future where every animal finds a safe and healthy environment to thrive.
Why We Are Here
Since our founding, APET has focused on the critical need for local support and education regarding responsible pet ownership. We serve as a vital resource for our community, striving to broaden our impact and ensure the well-being of the homeless animals in our region.
How We Operate
Our shelter provides a physical refuge for stray cats and dogs west of Mineola, where we focus on maintenance and compassionate care. To ensure each animal is ready for their forever family, we require every pet to be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. We also continue to facilitate Wood County's low-cost Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) to help control local animal populations.
Your Partner in Adoption
When you choose to adopt from APET, you are joining a mission of compassion and commitment. We are here to help you find the perfect match, ensuring that our animals transition successfully into your loving home. By choosing adoption, you are directly contributing to our 2026 goal of increasing the number of animals saved and rehomed in our county.
Join Our Mission
We invite you to visit our shelter, which is open Thursday through Saturday from 11 AM to 4 PM, or by appointment by calling (903) 638-6902.
