Our Mission
Texas CARES is dedicated to finding wonderful homes for adoptable cats while educating the public about responsible pet ownership. We strive to be a beacon of hope, working tirelessly to ensure every kitty in our care finds a loving family.
Our Story
Founded on June 22, 1993, by Marjorie Murphy, Texas CARES is proud to be one of the oldest cat-only rescues in Texas. As the first cat-only adoption group in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we have spent over three decades evolving alongside our community to save lives and support local shelters when they become overcrowded.
How We Care
Our life-saving work is powered by a network of approximately 350 dedicated volunteers and a robust foster program. Every cat we welcome receives comprehensive veterinary care, including testing for FIV and FeLV, vaccinations, and microchipping, before being placed in our adoption centers at PetSmart in Prosper or Petco in West Plano. By utilizing home-based foster care, we ensure our cats are socialized and comfortable in a loving environment while they wait for their forever homes.
