10/9 - 🩷Jaslyn - A054958🩷 I know it’s hard to come to a shelter and see a dog this nervous and think about taking them home with you …especially if they’re like Jaslyn and like to hide under their bed so you can’t see them at all! But those dogs are the ones that need you the most! Despite everyone’s best efforts, animal shelters are loud, overwhelming, and stressful - far from the cozy homes they deserve. It’s a lot for any animal - it’s actually crazier that ALL shelter pets aren’t nervous. The was a dog appears when you walk by their kennel is rarely a good representation of their personality, and Jaslyn is proof of that! She actually really enjoys attention and walks. So what if she’s a little nervous? We know once she finds an owner to calm her own, they’ll become her whole world. She just needs someone to be patient and teach her to trust! You could be the change Jaslyn needs. 10/1 - 🖤🐾 HAPPY NATIONAL BLACK DOG DAY! 🐾🖤 Today is a day dedicated to celebrating black dogs and bringing attention to a frustrating reality many shelters see: black dogs can be overlooked in favor of dogs with lighter or more distinctive coloring. So why does this happen? There’s no single reason, but it’s long been noticed that black dogs can face what’s sometimes called “Black Dog Syndrome” -the tendency for black dogs to be adopted more slowly than dogs of other colors. Part of it may simply be visibility. In dimmly lit kennel environments, dark colored dogs can be harder to see clearly, and harder to stand out. And when adopters are scrolling through dozens of photos, a black dog can sometimes blend into the background while a dog with a more unusual coat color immediately catches their eye. Of course, none of that tells you anything about the dog underneath the fur. A black dog can be silly, sweet, goofy, cuddly, playful, gentle, energetic, lazy, or absolutely obsessed with you - just like any other dog. 🖤 And we have two puppies who are living proof that even being a PUPPY doesn’t always guarantee a quick adoption. Meet Blinky and Clyde. These two are just 5 months old, and they’ve already spent more than FOUR MONTHS of their lives here in our shelter. They’ve found themselves as our 3rd and 4th longest in shelter residents. Puppies are usually some of the first dogs to find homes. But while Blinky and Clyde have been waiting, they’ve watched plenty of other puppies arrive, get adopted, and head home. But they’re still here. Both are really great pups, so the only explanation we have for why they haven’t been adopted yet is “Black Dog Syndrome.” They need someone to look past the color of their coat and see two wonderful puppies who deserve the same chance at a home as anyone else. Come meet Blinky and Clyde.
