Animal Defense League of Texas - Nacogdoches Campus
Our Mission
The Animal Defense League of Texas is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. We provide essential medical treatment, nutrition, and a safe, live-release shelter environment while preparing our residents for their new, forever families.
Our Story and Community Impact
With roots dating back to our incorporation in 1934, our mission has evolved to address the urgent needs of vulnerable pets in our community. Today, we focus on saving lives that primarily originate from the most poverty-stricken areas of San Antonio, striving to advocate for responsible pet ownership through education and empowerment.
How We Provide Care
We operate two unique facilities: our 12-acre main campus on Nacogdoches Road and the city-owned Paul Jolly Center for Adoptions. Both locations feature a full veterinary hospital on-site, where our team provides specialized medical care, spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and microchipping for every pet in our charge. As San Antonio’s oldest no-kill shelter, we ensure that no pet is ever euthanized to make room for others.
The Joy of Adoption
When you adopt from ADL, you save two lives: the pet you bring home and the one we now have space to rescue. We believe in creating a joyful, lasting partnership, which is why we guide you through a thoughtful matching process designed to help you find the best fit for your home and lifestyle. Every adoption includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, a microchip, and exclusive resources to help your new companion settle into their new life.
