Animal Defense League of Texas - Paul Jolly Adoption Center
Our Mission
The Animal Defense League of Texas (ADL) is dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens by providing medical treatment, nutrition, and a safe, live-release sanctuary. Through community education and empowerment, we advocate for responsible pet ownership and strive to match every animal with their forever family.
Our History
Our journey began with the Child Protective & Humane Society in 1923, and we were officially incorporated as the Animal Defense League in 1934 to prevent animal cruelty. Since moving to our 12-acre Nacogdoches campus in the 1960s, we have grown into San Antonio’s oldest no-kill shelter. Today, we also operate the city-owned Paul Jolly Center for Pet Adoptions to expand our lifesaving reach.
How We Help
ADL operates two facilities to save the lives of vulnerable pets, particularly those from San Antonio's most underserved communities. Our main campus includes a full veterinary hospital where we provide spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and specialized medical care. By relying on donations, grants, and community support, we ensure that every pet receives the care they need until they are ready for a new life.
Your Impact
When you adopt from ADL, you save two lives: the pet you bring home and the next animal we can rescue because of the open space in our shelter. We focus on finding the perfect match through personalized adoption counseling to ensure a joyful, long-term partnership for your family. Adopting a pet is a beautiful, rewarding experience that promotes health, emotional well-being, and companionship.
