Homes for Pets, also known as the Schertz Humane Society, is a non-profit organization dedicated to companion animal rescue and community education in Schertz, Texas, and the surrounding San Antonio areas. We believe in improving the lives of homeless animals by providing them with the care and support they need while they wait for their forever families.
Founded on the principle that the progress of a nation can be judged by how its animals are treated, we strive to make a tangible difference in our community every day. Our work is powered entirely by dedicated volunteers and is made possible through the kindness of supporters who contribute via donations, fundraisers, and membership dues.
We operate as a foster-based rescue, meaning our animals live in loving homes rather than in a facility. Before finding a new family, every animal in our care receives veterinary examinations, vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention, and spay or neuter surgery. While in foster care, dogs are house-trained, often crate-trained, and learn basic commands, helping them transition smoothly into their new lives.
Adopting a rescue animal is a joyful partnership, and we are committed to finding the perfect match for both you and your new pet. Our process includes an adoption application, a meeting between your family and the animal, and a home visit for dogs to ensure a successful, lasting bond. We provide the transparency and support you need to feel confident in your decision to adopt.
