At Lifeline of Galveston County, we believe that no healthy or treatable pet should lose their life simply because they lack a place to go. We are dedicated to building a future where every companion animal in our community has a safe place to thrive.
Our Story
Founded in 2020 by a team of friends passionate about animal welfare, we started with a bold, grassroots vision to change the outcomes for at-risk animals in our local municipal shelters. Since those early days, we have grown from a small group using traps and grit into a vital safety net for the pets of Galveston County, expanding our reach to save more lives every year.
How We Help
We operate as a dynamic safety net, focusing on vulnerable populations including large-breed dogs, neonatal kittens, and community cats. We utilize a dedicated foster network to provide compassionate care for 50 to 100 animals at any time, while also operating our Pet Adoption Center in Webster, which serves as a welcoming home-like environment for pets awaiting their forever families.

10/12 - Over 20,000 people have seen Juiles’ face, and we want to tell you a little more about the sweet boy behind all those views. ❤️ Juiles has been adopted twice and returned through no fault of his own, according to our records. His most recent return was due to recurring urinary issues and his owner being unable to afford the veterinary care he needed. Juiles has bladder inflammation that requires a little extra attention, but the good news is that it’s manageable! With a prescription diet and regular monitoring of his litter box habits, he can still live a long, happy, healthy life. He isn’t asking for a perfect home. He just needs someone who understands his needs and is willing to give him the care he deserves. After two adoptions that didn’t work out, we would love for Juiles’ next chapter to be the one that lasts forever. 10/11 - Ember is still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place, and she could use a few people in her corner. ❤️ This sweet girl is just under a year old and came back to us needing some extra help with socialization. She can be fearful around people, but with patience and consistency, we know she can continue building confidence. Ember gets her regularly scheduled walks, but she needs some dedicated one-on-one time to practice leash manners, get comfortable around people, and learn that new experiences can be a good thing. That’s where YOU can help! We’re looking for volunteers who can visit in the evenings and spend time walking Ember around the complex, working with her at her own pace. If you have room in your home, taking her for a sleepover would also give her a chance to experience life outside the shelter and build confidence with a little extra individual attention. She doesn’t need someone to fix everything overnight. She just needs patience, consistency, and people willing to show up for her. 10/11 - Meet the last of Yvonne Downs’ cats that we’ve welcomed into Lifeline’s care from GARC. ❤️ This sweet girl is diabetic and needs insulin twice a day, but please don’t let that scare you away from meeting her! She receives just two units of insulin in the morning and evening, and she’s already very accustomed to her routine. Administering insulin is easier than you might think, and we’ll provide training so you feel comfortable caring for her. We’ll also send her home with her remaining insulin supply to help get you started while you establish her ongoing care. Diabetes is manageable in cats, and with proper treatment, diabetic cats can still live happy, healthy lives. Some may even go into remission, while others need insulin long-term. And her personality? Just as sweet as can be. She patiently let us hold and pet her for several minutes while we recorded videos, and she was an absolute sweetheart the entire time. 10/11 - Social media is a wonderful thing, but sometimes it feels like you’re speaking into the void. 💔 We’ve shared April and Chaya again and again, hoping the right person will see their faces and fall in love. These two senior girls have been waiting for months, patiently hoping someone will finally choose them. April is 11, and Chaya is 14. They deserve to spend their golden years surrounded by love, with soft, comfy beds, a family to call their own, and all the little comforts that make a house feel like home. 10/10 - Some people leave a legacy that continues long after they’re gone. For Yvonne Downs, that legacy lives on in the countless cats she helped, the people she taught, and the lives she changed through her dedication to animal rescue. Yvonne spent decades showing up for cats, often volunteering more than 40 hours a week. She was a true champion for them, and her impact on our community will not be forgotten. Now, we have an opportunity to honor her legacy by showing up for the cats she loved. Yvonne leaves behind beloved cats who need safe, loving homes. So far, Lifeline has taken on five medical cases, including cats who need specialized and ongoing care. 10/10 - Poppy has found her forever home! ❤️ Since this video was recorded, she’s been adopted, but her brothers Vanilla, Pepper, Pollo, and Cookies and Cream are still looking for families of their own. All four boys are around 9 months old and small in size. They’re currently in foster homes, so you’ll need to apply online to schedule a meet and greet. 10/10 - Look at their faces. HOW have these two not been adopted yet?! ❤️ April and Chaya have been showing up to our PetSmart adoption events nearly every Saturday since June. That’s almost FOUR MONTHS of getting ready to meet potential adopters, putting themselves out there, and going home without a family of their own. And honestly? We just don’t get it. Look at them! They’re freaking adorable! April is the beautiful black dog, and she’s 11 years old. Chaya is our tiny Chihuahua, and she’s 14. These girls are seniors who deserve so much more than spending their weekends hoping someone will finally choose them. They deserve a couch to call their own, a family to love, and a place to spend their golden years being spoiled like they should be. Their current foster is going out of town, so we need to find them a new foster home temporarily. But if we could find their forever family instead? Even better! 10/9 - Not every dog dreams of hiking mountains, running miles, or spending all weekend on adventures. Some dogs just want a cozy bed, a pile of blankets, and someone to watch movies with. Meet Macho. ❤️ This approximately 4-year-old sweetheart is a pretty chill guy who prefers the quieter side of life. He can be shy and wary when meeting new people, but once he feels safe, he starts to come around and show his sweet side. Macho finds comfort in his kennel or other cozy, enclosed spaces where he can relax. He’d much rather take a short stroll around the yard than walk around the neighborhood, and he’s not going to judge you for spending your weekend gaming or watching movies. Honestly, he’d probably prefer that, too. He’s done well with other dogs, so he may be a good fit for a home with a compatible resident dog or an established pack. Introductions would help determine the best match. Macho could be a wonderful companion for someone who works long hours or simply prefers a quieter lifestyle. He’s content enjoying his own space and doesn’t need constant entertainment to be happy. If you’re looking for a low-key companion who would be thrilled to share your couch and your downtime, Macho might be your guy. 10/9 - Meet Penelope, our little girl with the nose that needs some extra love. ❤️ Penelope was transported to Lifeline yesterday from Galveston County Animal Resource Center, thanks to one of our wonderful volunteers! We’re working on getting her scheduled with a veterinarian to determine what medical care she needs. We anticipate that surgery may be in her future to help open her nostrils, but we’re waiting for the vet’s evaluation before we know exactly what that will look like. In the meantime, we’re accepting donations to help cover Penelope’s medical care. We want to give this little girl every opportunity to breathe easier and live a comfortable, happy life. 10/8 - We need transport for this little girl. This sweet girl is currently at the Galveston County Animal Resource Center and needs to make her way to Lifeline, where we can get her the medical care she needs. Her nostrils are extremely narrow, and she may need reconstructive surgery to help open her airways. She needs to be evaluated by our veterinary team so we can determine exactly what she needs and get her on the road to feeling better. 10/8 - Apple and Pecan are the last two puppies left from their litter! 🍎🥧 We’re really hoping this is the weekend these two find their forever families. Before you fall in love with a puppy, we always want to be honest about what puppy life actually looks like. Puppies are adorable, but they also come with potty training, teething, chewing, lots of energy, and a need for plenty of toys and enrichment. That doesn’t mean they’re bad puppies. It just means we want their families to know what they’re signing up for and be prepared for the puppy stage. The good news? This is also the perfect time to start training. Puppies are learning every day, and if you already have an older dog, they can often help show a new puppy the ropes. And if you need a little help along the way, we work with several trainers and would be happy to connect you with recommendations. Apple and Pecan are ready for their next chapter. 10/8 - 🖤🐈⬛ BLACK CAT OF THE WEEK: DOROTHY 🐈⬛🖤 Meet Dorothy! This sweet girl is almost 4 months old, and she is affectionate, loving, and ready to find her forever family. 🥹🖤 And because it’s October, we want to talk about something that matters to black cats like Dorothy. There’s a long-standing myth that black cats are at greater risk of being abused, sacrificed, or adopted for “nefarious” reasons around Halloween. But there is no evidence that black cats face a greater risk of these things during Halloween than at any other time of year. Organizations like the ASPCA have addressed these myths, and research looking at shelter outcomes for more than 1,200 black cats found that their adoption and transfer outcomes in October were not better than other months — meaning Halloween does not create some documented spike in dangerous adoptions. (ASPCA) We know people who restrict black cat adoptions around Halloween are trying to protect them. We understand the intention. ❤️ But fear-based policies can have an unintended consequence: keeping perfectly wonderful cats from finding homes when they desperately need them. Black cats already face adoption challenges, and research has found that they can experience lower adoption and higher euthanasia rates in shelters. That means the best thing we can do is focus on responsible adoptions, proper screening, and finding loving homes — not spreading myths that make people afraid of black cats. (PubMed Central (PMC)) So let’s give Dorothy what she actually needs: 🏠 A safe home ❤️ Someone who loves affection 🐾 A family who will cherish her 🖤 And a chance to be seen for who she REALLY is — not for the superstitions surrounding her coat color. Dorothy is not bad luck. 10/7 - Meet Poppy, the last of our San Leon puppies to find her way into Lifeline’s care. ❤️ At 9 months old, Poppy is still young enough to learn, grow, and build a life with her person, but she’s also past the most intense puppy stage. And the best part? She’s already at her adult size, so what you see is what you get! Poppy is a smaller girl who would much rather be carried around than walked. She’s still playful and curious, but she’s also coming from a difficult start, so her new family should be prepared to give her some time to decompress and adjust. That adjustment period is completely normal, especially for a dog who hasn’t always had the easiest life. 10/4 - Have you met Gonzo? This big, sweet 5-year-old has been with Lifeline for several months after coming to us from the League City Animal Shelter, where we were told he was a shelter favorite. And we can see why. Gonzo has been doing really well in our supervised play groups and continues to show us what a sweet, friendly guy he is. But after spending several months waiting, we’d really love to get him out of the kennel and give him some time to simply be a dog. Of course, we’d love nothing more than to see Gonzo find his forever home. But if you’re not quite ready to adopt, consider taking him on a sleepover or Doggy Day Out this week. 10/4 - Meet Sadie! 💕 Sadie is young, sweet, funny, and full of energy. She’s the kind of dog who will be your best friend, your shadow, and absolutely your person. But she’s also going to need a home that can keep up with her. We probably wouldn’t recommend Sadie for a first-time dog owner unless you truly understand and want the commitment that comes with a young, energetic dog. And that doesn’t make her any less deserving of a home. It just means we want to find the right one. If you have an active lifestyle, a big yard to run around in, love going for walks or runs, or already have a playful dog who would enjoy a buddy, Sadie could be your perfect match. She’s going to need exercise, enrichment, playtime, and someone who understands that keeping a young dog entertained is part of the deal.
