At Pope Memorial Frontier Animal Shelter, our mission is to enhance the well-being of animals in Orleans and Essex Counties. We provide compassionate shelter for lost and unwanted animals while working to build a more humane future through community programs and responsible pet ownership.
Founded in 1993 by dedicated residents of the Northeast Kingdom, we began as the Frontier Animal Society of Vermont to address the urgent need for homeless animal care. Over the decades, we have evolved from a grassroots volunteer network into a permanent facility, supported by a generous endowment from Lyman Pope that continues to fuel our life-saving work today.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are a no-kill organization, meaning we do not euthanize for time or space. Our facility in Orleans serves as a dedicated hub where our team provides medical attention, enrichment, and daily care to help every animal thrive. We prioritize transparency and balance, ensuring that every cat and dog receives the individualized support they need while they wait for their forever homes.
We believe that adoption is the start of a beautiful, lifelong partnership. By taking the time to understand your lifestyle and household through our application process, we help create thoughtful matches that set both you and your new pet up for success. Whether you are meeting one of our long-term residents or a new arrival, we are here to support you in finding the right companion.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our available animals online or call us at 802-754-2228 to schedule an appointment. Your support through adoption, volunteering, or donations makes a life-changing difference for the animals we serve.
